Tevez

Postby Original Dub » Thu Nov 05, 2009 2:41 pm

His name has cropped up a few times recently with some folk saying "we'll see the real Tevez soon", "I'm not sure what his best position is", "All he does is run around like a headless chicken" etc...

I think Tevez has been one of our best perfomers. He definitely has more to come, but his contribution so far has been huge.

Obviously, his workrate is never in question, but the guy has four goals and four assists. So his best position is exactly where he is playing right now.

When our midfield gets the right balance and creativity, he will be our best player IMO.

I hope your right but I havent been that impressed by him to be honest. My problems with him are

> he has little pace
> gets caught in possession to often
> bad first touch, far to often it bounces off him, but then people think hes brillaint becuase he muscles his way out of the situation he got himself in with a bad first touch
> His shooting hasnt been the best from distance, in fact i dont think it ever has, ok scored a few screamers for them but he hits ALOT of shots that are hopeless

However you are right that his assists have been crucial and he has got a superb eye for a ball. And obviously he puts the work in but i could offer us that! I hope there is more to come from him to be honest.......

Hold on one second, I didn't say he was our best player, I said that as time goes on and our midfield get more creative he will be our best player IMO. Bit of a difference there mate.

Also, Robinho might be the most skillful player we have, but as it stands, he is not our best player. Not by some distance. Your best player is the one who contributes the most. Ireland was our best player last season. That's a fact. He played in the same team as Robinho, so your theory falls short immediately.

Now, so far Tevez has four goals and four assists. I think its between him and Bellamy as to who has contributed the most in attack.
Do you really think that once our forward line clicks fully and get better balls from midfield that he is not capable of being our best player. Is he capable of doing so? What about at the end of the season if he has given more assists and scored almost as many goals as Ade? And thtat's not mentioning his all round work rate. He could well be our player of the year, so saying I'm a comedian for thinking this is a possibility is a bit much, no?

He played one of the best passes Ive ever seen in the game against Birmingham - a straight ball along the ground between two defenders and straight to Bellamy's feet (I think it was to Bellamy) - who didn't even need to break stride or slow his pace to get onto it. Absolute quality. I just wish Tevez could get a few more of his shots on target then I'd be happy.

Hope you're right, because it looks to me that he is a brilliant ball winner, but when its at his feet he is very indecisive. I know he has the skill and talent to come good, and am still certain he will sooner rather than later. I hate thinking this about players so early into the season, but now we're only on one game a week i find it hard not to say something, espeically as i base it (unfairly) on the last few games. I wish we didn't have to wait so long for our next game!

I hope your right mate. The great thing about out attack is that everyone of them brings something different to the game, we have the full set. To make a passing comment like not in the same league as robinho is a bit silly. your spot on with robbie most skillful player but not our most effective. If we can get the midfeild right then we will score goals for fun AND have the ability on the bench to bring something different to the game should it be required. Still have to pinch myself when i look at our squad, simply OUTSTANDING

Have read him being described on the forums as “Dickov on Steroids”

A bit harsh, but I can see where the comparison comes from.

It could well have been to SWP, yes (the player came in from the right) - I was in multiple orgasms about the ball from Tevez at the time.

I am desperate to see them in the same team - behind Ade -I think we will then see the best of both of them

Tevez can be brilliant and selfless and have an amazing workrate, but he can also be infuriating and distinctly average. Some of his one touch passing leaves me cringing as he always seems to chip one time passes and the extra touch the other player has to take can destroy momentum.

Agreed on all points mate he really is a hard worker but he is prone to mistakes maybe it is blending in with the team? If he is still making the same kind of mistakes come January then h'es obviously not gonna change though.

Spot on. I don't know how any can question his first touch. Some of his first time passes have been brilliant. I think if certain players were on his level we would have noticed them more. I remember one he did again Birmingham on the volley, first time to SWP.

Probably his biggest quality is getting the opposition to make a mistake and I think if we played with Robinho on the left and him right of Ade in a three pronged at home, himself and Robinho could switch back and forth which gives Tevez the freedom to create the space needed for Robinho to give that bit of magic or get the ball to Ade. Three attackers with a lovely blend of differing qualities.

See, simple!

I don't think he even knows what exactly is his best position in his new team is. He is still trying to find his way. I see him dropping back a lot into midfield which is due to the fact that we don't have playmaker at the moment. His best position IMO is well in front right behind Ade with freedom to roam.
One other thing, I think at present he's trying too hard to impress and shooting (too much for my liking) at sight, I wish he wud pass more sometimes.

The play between him and SWP against Brum was fantastic and I hope they can stay together on that right hand side as I see the two of them flourishing of each other.
The last two games Tev has been pretty good before that I thought he was a bit ineffective.
Now hopefully as his match fitness improves he will start to show how good he can be.
