Jordan V Wright-Phillips

Postby MaineRoadMemories » Wed Nov 04, 2009 5:07 pm

Anyone else really looking forward to this contest on Saturday? Jordan, a superb tackler of the ball, alas far too slow to ever make use of his excellent ability in the premiership.

I think this game will prove, to me at least, whether Shaun still has what it takes to beat a man and be deadly from the wing. Against most left backs this season he has not been able to "burn" them and has often looked slow on the ball, although it could be said that defenders are getting faster and faster each year.

But with Jordan that will not be the case. If he doesn't run past him using pace on Saturday then it will be a worrying sign.

Maybe with the fact Jordan's been spouting shit in the press about no more players coming through from the City academy after Richards, Ireland and Onuoha we could possibly bring on Weiss for the last 10 just to tear him a new one?

Haven't they got Jordan and Mears at Full back. I always worry when we get up against "City rejects" that they'll play out of their skin.
That said they should be outclassed on both flanks and up the middle.

At the other end, Nugent's done us before now and Robbie Blake's an old fox. Ex scum Eagles can be a handful too.
However they are woeful away from home and our lads owe us a big win, so let's hope Stephen and Tyrone oblige and take the day off

Your'e not wrong there, Weiss would really be interesting to see! I should rename the thread title. I think Jordan would get dizzy coming up against his skill and speed.

That's the match-up I want to see right there. Hopefully we'll be home and dry by 60 mins and can unleash the Impaler on poor Jordan

Jordan wouldn't stand a chance against Weiss lets be honest so Hughes will play the obvious choice of SWP as usual.

SWP hate is getting popular around here lately. I expect him to make Jordan look foolish as hell. The lad is champion.

From the title I thought it was some kind of a height contest, or did you mean to make it sounds so?
I think its a great thread title. The difference between SWP and Jordan in speed is the same as the difference between SWP and M Jordan in height.

No hate from me mate, just always enjoy seeing a young exciting prospect coming through, even if it is to replace one who followed the same path !

He may not be the best defender overall, but Jordan well and truly had trannie's number every time he played him so I would back him against other tricky wingers like SWP.

In addition, SWP is having a major form problem and so I expect Jordan to have quite a quiet afternoon, although hope Shaun would take the opportunity to snap out of his malaise

I normally really like what you say and think you talk a lot of sense but I disagree with you about SWP.
I think he has been playing well and cant see why so many people are dissappointed with him

He seems to be trying to pass round rather than trying to beat his man. No problem with that on its own, but when he makes the hurried pass when he reaches the defender, it unerringly goes to the opposition.

Then when he is surrounded by players and a simple pass is on, he runs down a dead end. His decision making has been appalling all season, but many have only noticed in in our recent away games where so many of our attacks have broken down when the ball reaches Shaun as he has invariably chosen the wrong option.

Sure its only temporary, but he's been doing this for a couple of months now.

I think SWP looks a little off the boil, but hardly worth all the crap he's getting; he's having a dip in form relative the the high standards he's set himself. No player can consistently perform brilliantly week in week out and I reckon he'll come good. Being barracked won't help though for certain, and there's over zealous murmurs of discontent filtering through from some of the more impatient members of our crowd.

Personally I'd like to think we'll be dominant enough to be in the position to roast Stevie Jordan with SWP and then Weiss. I just hope he doesn't try and hack either of them to death, which he's quite capable of as I remember.

I havent heard anyone where I sit having a pop at him, and would be disppointed to hear people calling him out - as I would have thought he has enough goodwill built up over the years to forgive him a few off games. However, if he is playing consistently poorly (which he is) he should not be immine to criticism and particularly collective moans when he passes the ball to the opposition for the 5th time in a match.

I certainly think he will come through this dip - its probably the first one he has ever had in what, 7/8 years at city?

A game at home against a team who are poor on the road should be tailor made for SWP to get back on form, so here's hoping

Unlike you RH, I don't usually agree with John but on this occasion I think it is a timely reminder that we should be wary of.
Depspite what common sense and our expectations tell us, let's not forget the job that Jordan did on the Trannie.

I don't think I have read any hate of SWP and as has been said, he has built up enough goodwill not to deserve any or at least be given a little teeway by the fans. Criticism of his loss of form has generally been pretty constructive.

However, we have a squad for a reason and if it is to be used properly, then an out of form SWP should make way for Weiss. If we are to go on and compete at the top level, sentiment has to be binned.
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT
