So 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 or another formation?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

So 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 or another formation?

I will change this a bit so it doesnt mix with NQDP. I will use my exact post from his thread actually to raise my point.

We NEED TO USE A 4-3-3!!

4-4-2 just doesnt suit city! We have attacking players and they can not benefit from a 4-4-2. With 4-3-3, We will be able to have 3 front men moving around wanting the ball. We can have two wide strikers e.g. Bellamy, Robinho, Tevez, Roque? Hopefully when they have the ball at there feet they will be able to put in a DECENT cross to our Target man Ade or Roque who can hopefully head it in. IT IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE lol.

The thing which i am starting to get worried about is that we dont have a provider that is capable of crossing a ball past the first man. Petrov is a good crosser yes but isnt really in Hughes's plans for first team at the moment. Weiss can cross yes but he isnt getting a chance to show what he can do!!

If i was Hughes i would have a sit down and think about playing 4-3-3 and what players would fit that formation and pick players that will be able to make an impact!! Have barry, ireland and de jong in midfield, That would be a solid midfield and they are capable pf covering the 2 full backs. Give bellers, ade and tevez a go again and have tevez and bellers cutting inside and supporting Ade.

The next thing is that at times we do not look creative. We sit back knocking it about looking for an opening and then when we are in our own quarter we have to boot it all the way upfield and we have to start again!! We need people to use the flanks to make runs and creative runs through the middle that will eventually catch out there defense!

Lets take a look at a 4-4-2 formation and a 4-3-3 formation shall we involving citys team.

I am leaving Robbie out of both of these by the way

4-4-2:

Shay

Zabaleta Kolo Lescott bridge

Swp De Jong Barry Petrov

Tevez Ade

Now if we look at this lineup, We have a decent back 4 that should be capable of keeping the goals out!
We have 2 great holding midfielders that should just be able to stop the other teams passgae of play and give the ball to either petrov or Swp so then they they can hit the flanks and storm up there and hopefully put a good ball in or cut inside and look to ofload the ball to a player for a tap in or SHOOT!! With tevez and Ade alone upfront. I dont think there is much creativity there so that is why we need ireland in the team to storm up through the middle and support the strikers!!

4-3-3

Shay

Zabaleta Kolo Lescott Bridge

Ireland De Jong Barry

Bellamy Ade Tevez

Right with this formation we can bring in more attacking players and we still have defensive players to support the defense. We have De jong and barry who can do the same as 4-4-2 and that is to support the defense and help the strikers out a bit to maybe.
Then we have Ireland who can run back and forward helping the defense out and then breaking forward with the midfielders and passing the ball to either one of the strikers. Preferbly a wide one e.g bellers or tevez so they can put in a ball along the ground for ade to get onto or maybe even Ireland as he would be there or maybe even Jong or Barry. Also they could cross the ball but i would prefer Tevez and bellamy to cut inside and provide a ball for the strikers or shoot!!
With Robbie on his way back to, We would be looking to use him. maybe to take de jong or barrys place or maybe even Irelands or he could take one of the strikers places. With Robinho he has thew skills and vision ti provide that final ball or finish a move of. He has that creativity and spark.

Now i am going to draw up a dream team lineup that might happen in the future, Who knows hey, But i am not going to change the keeper or defense, Why would we want to change the keeper anyway!!!

Shay

Kolo Kompany Lescott

RIbery Yaya Barry/de jong Ireland

Tevez Ade Bellers

I have only put in Yaya and Ribery. Why them to you might ask?, Because they are attacking players but also defenders!! Yaya will hold the line brilliantly with De jong or barry and then he would get forward with Ireland and ribery and attack there defenders while Barry just sat in the middle of the park holding the line together. Ribery on the right or left woulfd provide pace, skill, power, Vision. He is a great crosser of the ball and would look to switch the ball from left to right or storm down the wing and put in a testing ball and see if one of the midfielders or strikers can get on the end of it! Or he could cut inside and look to take on a shot, A lot of options!!

I am not saying we are going to get Ribery but i am just trying to create what it would be like if we had him or yaya, On the other hand i have a good feeling about Yaya coming to Eastlands fingers crossed!!

Any comments?

If we play 4-3-3 and lose/draw, people want a 4-4-2, when we play 4-4-2 and lose/draw, they want 4-3-3.

Bellers and Tevez work very hard and cover enough ground to make a 4-3-3 work

At home we should defintely go 4-3-3, like last season, we had it nailed.

Its away from home we need to options to change it about if we take the lead, and need to hold on for abit, and then play on the break etc.

We have a good and big enough squad to make this theory work, however currently we are abit fucked by injuries and niggles
