So the stories about Sturridge and his brothers/advisors want £55k a week were all bollox then? Chelsea offered him £60k a week .... which is the real reason he went.

Danny never wanted to leave, nor was it down to him demanding silly money.
Him leaving as he did is down to hughes and nothing else, he never made any contract demands other than exactly the same as every other graduate moving up to the first team set up ( 23k plus bonus`s ).
The reason his contract ran down to less than a year was because every time an appointment was made to sort it out hughes canceled it, after 8 months of this at the first meeting hughes offered him 16k on a take it or leave it basis........he left it.
Then the fairy stories in the press started*, Danny requested the club to issue a statement putting the record straight, they defered it to hughes as manager, he refused but then offered the full contract.
The accademy staff almost got him to stay, telling him it was only a matter of time before the numpty was shown the door, but bad timing meant that the club issued a statement saying hughes job was safe, and there was no way Danny was going to stay with him in charge after the stories in the press routine.
So I say good luck to the lad, he did nothing wrong, and just because he is now at another club his talent is no less, and who knows, maybe he will come back one day.
If you dont like him or dont rate him, then thats your opinion, but dont base it on the load of bollocks the tafia leaked to the media.
* hughes M.O. with everyone who he percieved crossed him.
He was rated by all at City, and why not they taught him everything he knew, he lacks heart to be a centre forward, but finishing is top draw given no physical contact, He left for free with City getting some tribunal fee because he was a Chelsea player 12 months before he left due to massive signing on deal. Ancelloti did not rate his attitude for the record.

Danny?
Find it odd that he ended up at the only club who has previous with us in terms of matching wages.

Was pissed off with him being a greedy bastard when he left. He's doing really well at the minute, and fair play to him, but I wouldn't have him in our team. Plus his price will sky high due to English-player-inflation.

We'll never know for sure but I don't think what Blueonblue is saying is too far fetched. It would certainly explain the bizarre preference Hughes had for Evans over Sturridge.
Speaking about Evans, did you know him and Clayton McDonald have been charged with rape and are going to trial in March next year.

As much as I love a good Hughes bashing, that's complete crap. Sturridge has a terrible attitude and refused to sign a contract because he wanted a more important role at the club, more game time and probably more cash.
One he got into his last year I think it was plainly obvious he was heading to Chelsea who have been interested in him since he was 15.

I seem to remember a figure of 60k being demanded by Mr Sturridge at a time when he was nothing more than a "prospect"

Two more of our ex kids facing serious charges? Jesus.
Re Sturridge & Ched Evans, the reason he got preference was because at the time he was performing better than Sturridge in the reserves etc. Sturridge was getting an absolute slating from people who watch reserve games at the time, for not trying etc etc (which isn't surprising as had been tapped up by Chelsea) & Evans was playing superbly. That's why he got a chance ; because he thouroughly deserved it. At youth team level, Evans was fantastic; reminded me of Alan Shearer. I don't know why he lost it so badly, especially touch, which was brilliant & classy & he used to do stuff like this:

Correct, Hughes joined June 2008, Sturridge joined Chelsea July 2009, so was already in the final year of his contract.
He had talent, but at the time was demanding too much for what he was producing, although maybe he saw all the other players Hughes brought in / wanted to bring in and the amount he was spending on them?
With the constant approach for Santa Cruz, wouldn't you want to leave if you thought he would be taking a spot in the first team over you and on more money than you?
Still think he's a moody greedy little bastard, but one hell of a talent and would be nice to have in the rotation system

Except the contract had already been discussed with Sven and they were due to finalise it when sven got the bullet, Danny more than happy to sign it, it was hughes who constantly canceled meetings to sort it out once he arrived and for the next eight months.
Chelski made an approach for him when he was 16, offering three million and a personal contract that would have trippled his wages, he turned it down, he did not have a medical or a bad back, he said no...........hardly the actions of a money grubber.
Now is there anyone on here who would not see their arse if they were offered half of what fellow workers doing the same job were on ?, throw in that the previous gaffer had made the offer but the new bloke wanted to take the piss, it got far worse as it went on because of the fariy stories of his "Demands" fed to the media,
Yes his form did take a dive, but did you not think it strange that he suddenly got played in the first team for the last few games ?, that was down to numpty finally cottoning on to what he had done and trying to talk him round to staying.
As I said, judge him as a player and make your own mind up, but for me, he should still be at the club but for that utter c*nt of an excuse for a man.

I dont really like his attitude but I have to laugh at people calling a greedy bastard.
At the time Chelsea were and up until the last three months a better team than us AND they were willing to pay him more money not to mention Champions League football. That is a no brainer if you are not a City fan.
If he is a greedy bastard because he went to a team who offered him the most money, then 90% of our team are in the same boat.

No, now he is better, but they were the same. The problem is that Evans went to Sheffield and Daniel went to Chelsea. He had better coaches, better atmosphere to grow as a player. If Evans had his conditions, he would had been as good as him.
Sturridge is ten times the player Evans ever has been or will be.

At 16 he'd been good enough to be able to burst onto the Premier League scene at 16 or 17. Unfortunately he had a huge attack of the Big Time Charlies, which even lasted through his first two years at Chelsea, so they begin to think they'd made a mistake.
Only now he seems to have finally matured, and fair play to him. Even if the daft buggers are playing him out of position.
He has grown into the player he could have been at 17. But there's no reason why any club should indulge someone for 6 years, so it's no fault of City's, whoever was in charge.
He plays for Chelsea, move on and FFS get over it!
