Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Quote from Clichy from few years back
I really believe if you are a player who only thinks about money then you should end up at Manchester City. You have to think if you want to play for a big club and have your image or if you want to play for a good club and earn big money. When you ask someone to leave for £300k a week it is just crazy.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Agree, but I don't think he's won anything with either Arsenal or Cannes.

He, like many people, was caught up in the media hysteria/hype that manchester city were going to sign galacticos and pay them daft wages, whats actually happened is very different, in the space of a few years we've superceded arsenal, added a trophy to our cabinet, and will be considered real challengers for the title next season

hope he can rediscover his form of 2 or 3 seasons ago. i thought he was the best full back in the league at that point.

That statement shows how far we have come in a such short time.

I just can't work Arsenal out. Are they trying to take the short term pain of paying off their stadium as quickly as possible so they can rule the world once it's done? Or are the owners screwing the club for every penny they can? Or is this really Arsene's way?
Why sell the players that got you so close last season. Selling Clichy makes no sense. Not raising the wage structure so that you can compete with clubs like us doesn't make sense. Why?

Simple as that, Arsenal can't compete with us in the wage market. If they did, they would go bust in two, max three seasons. They can have an exception to the rule, but not more than that, and if they will make that exception it won't be for Clichy. Now, Clichy had the contract runnign out next season so the only logical solution was to sell him, and the same goes for Nasri; I'm pretty sure they will sell him and try to keep Fabregas instead. Or, they will sell Fabregas and then make Nasri the shining star in their side.
All of that is without taking into consideration the fact that many of their players are getting tired of always being those who came close, they want to actually win things.

Last night against Villareal, I thought Gael was superb.
hardly put a foot wrong, stole the ball for the third goal. awesome.
might be too early, but I think we should sell Kolarov in the summer. He won't cut it in PL. Use the money to get someone young and promising.

Kolarov's a great squad player and offers us a variety of options. Should definitely keep him. He's been good this year.
Clichy is something else though. Love him. Absolute bargain of the highest order.

Just reading back through this thread and found this post I made about me being excited to sign him -
Permission to feel smug? haha
twosips wrote:Clichy got gradually worse in a poor and spineless team. It's contagious sadly. Say what you want about Arsenal's attacking ability, but fuck me, they're wimps.
HOWEVER he was in the Premier League XI a couple of year's back, and he's still as fit as a fiddle. I do believe that in a good team he'll improve immensely. You only have to look at how much Lescott, Kompany, Zabaleta and Richards have all improved in the past year and a half to see what Mancini can do for a defender's confidence. Micah especially - that boy didn't know the meaning of the words 'offside trap' - useless positional awareness. However he turned it around. I see no reason why Clichy can't do the same.
When is the last time he played under a proper leader? In a team full of winners? Fuck knows...say what you like but Cesc and RVP, as good as they are, are hardly Vincent Kompany, Carlos Tevez and Nigel De Jong when it comes to sheer hard-work and utter refusal to lose on the football pitch are they? I include Tevez because despite all of his faults he's still an exceptional team player on the pitch. Also, Clichy's form dramatically dipped when Arshavin was placed in front of him - may be a coincidence, but Arshavin defensively was fucking no where. At least at City he'd have Silva covering - even Balo tracked back towards the end of the season.
Alongside Lescott, VK, Joe Hart, Micah, and with Barry/Yaya/De Jong dropping back to cover his forward runs, i've got no doubt that he will rediscover his top form. At £7m this is a snip. Clichy wasn't the problem at Arsenal - it was the whole team - spineless, immature, looking for a leader, and without anyone willing to take hold of the leadership mantle.

Kolarov is only 25. Like alot of players new to the Prem it has taken him a season to settle in ... I'd deffo keep him as he gives us lots of options and can even play as a winger like he did last night.

Why? He's a good player and you need two good players for every position.
I think Kolarov and Clichy are both hitting the heights because of the competition. That's why I wish we still had top-class back-up for Hart.
