Bellers

Postby Blue2 » Wed Oct 21, 2009 10:27 pm

What a guy, this sums him up perfectly.
http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Team-news/20 ... -take-them

Craig Bellamy has given a remarkable insight into his football philosophy by insisting that a goal he made - rather than one that he scored - has given him the most pleasure so far.
Bellamy was the runaway winner of the inaugural Etihad Airways Player of the Month Award with an overwhelming 56 per cent of fans' votes to reward his blistering early-season form.

The Wales skipper's spectacular goal feast - a home strike against Arsenal followed by a memorable derby double a week later - helped fire the Blues to a top-four start to the campaign.

But when Etihad competition winner Ian Goldberg asked Craig to pick the best of those goals, the City striker said: "The one I set up for Shaun Wright-Phillips was my favourite of the lot.

"At 3-1 up against Arsenal it would have been easy to let Gael Clichy carry on running, but I tracked him all the way back then ran the length of the pitch to slip Shaun in for the fourth.

Against the likes of Arsenal you need that extra goal, and that means more to me than the goals I scored to be honest, because that goal showed what I am

"I much prefer to be setting a goal up for someone in a better position. I've never built my game around goals, it's about my performance and work ethic. I think fans appreciate me giving my all.

"I don't like to come off the pitch able to walk properly - I want to give everything I have, because I know that I'm a limited player. If I do that, it gives me the best chance to play well."

I was totally against signing him, thought he was a waste of money and was a twat. Now.......... I am happy to eat humble pie and admit I was wrong.

Top geezer the little Welsh scamp. I...erm.. always knew he was a great bloke really...honestly.

Stan Bowles sometimes used to have the problem of not being able to walk properly but that was going on to the pitch. The pre-game trip to the pub & the bookies had something to do with it I believe.

He isn't a saint but seems to have grown up a little bit and is a great pro. I loved this rant after the Wales/Finland match...legend! May be slated for being unprofessional but I see it as passion.

"There not a good side"
"Neither of us have a hope of qualifying, 2 poor sides"
"Johannsen, how did he score, I don't think he is a good enough player to score"

I like Bellamy and he is top player for us but that rant was disrespectfull. Not towards us as a side, although we did comfortable double over Wales, so much but towards Johansson. Man has better strike rate than Bellamy in international level and I think slagging opposition players is always out of order no matter what you think of them. He was right about us both having snowballs chance in hell qualifying but I thought that was pretty clear two seconds after the unlucky draw anyway. But we got two draws out of Germany and I'd say that puts us miles above Wales. Russia was easily the best side I've seen at international level live (and I.ve hardly missed a qualifying game in past decade and not many in decade before that either) in past ten years or so.

His comments in original post are great and he certainly deserves the gong. I've been happy to eat the humble pie.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I have to say, I wasn't over the moon on signing him, thought we had another Barton on our hands and we overpaid for a crock and all the bad thoughts that I am sure we all had at one point. But he has just been fucking superb since arriving this season and last,(What part of it he played before the injury) and I think if we make top 4 this season(and that's a certainty) that it will be in no small part down to him.

Completely wrong on him, certainly one of the best buys we have made since the lottery win.

I think most fans were against signing him but he's proved everybody wrong up to now. Shows how he's grown up when he says the best goal so far was the one he set up for SWP against Arsenal, it was a great goal and showed his work ethic. Is he back for weekend do we know?

I have been a fan of his for a long time and was one of the few on here that saw him as a good purchase

Knew he would be a good impact player just didn't realise what an impact he would make!!

All those that baulked at the 10 mil or so we paid for him...he now looks a snip at the price

Bellers has been a bit of a journeyman for some time...I just hope he settles at City and becomes a legend for us...

Let's face it...we all love determination graft and spirit...that...coupled with his rapid pace and eye for goal could make him a fan favourite for some time to come

Put a tenner on him at 260/1 to be the premier's top scorer this season, so I'm delighted with his start to the season.
Got to keep fit and keep the goals coming.

Antti,
I would agree that Bellers would have been disrespectful had he made those comments some time later when his emotions had settled down.
It isn't really fair to judge any players comments when they have just come off the pitch and are emotionally drained.

You, yourself, are city passionate and I am sure that your comments on match threads bear little resemblance to your thoughts an hour or two later. I know I often scream and swerar at stuff as it's happening on the pitch but have a different take on the same incident later, when I have had a chance to think about it rationally.

Bellamy is a passionate player and it is no suprise that he is gutted at losing.

I hate you being there after we've been beaten. You're too positive and all I wanna do is whinge and batter someone, and you just pull up the positives about it.
Its really annoying.

When we signed him I must admit to regarding him as an above average player with a terrible attitude. Glad to see I was wrong on both counts, not just above average, up with the best. 260/1 sounds some odds to me and if he stays fit all season I think you've got a good chance of being considerably better off than you are now. 10/1 now on Betfair.

I know a few Liverpool fans that still dont know why he was sold. There game was crying out for a Bellerys type of player the other night. I'm sure it was because Rafa did not have the foggiest how to deal with him unlike Hughes who's man managment cannot be underestimated in this case.

Top player and was a bit shocked by the vile abuse he got on here prior to even kicking a ball for us. Glad he has proved the mases wrong and that some are big enough to admit that. Love watching him play and the way he even kicks off if a throwing don't go his way.
