England World Cup Game Only Available On Internet

Postby King Kev » Mon Oct 05, 2009 6:22 am

England's game in the Ukraine on Saturday will not be shown on TV. The only way to watch it live will be to pay £5 (rising to £12 if you pay on the day!!) for an internet stream.

Considering the amount of money the BBC and Sky take off us I am disappointed that they haven't stumped up the cash to show the game.

Terrible that this game isn't being shown live. I really hope the viewing figures are rock bottom so that this never happens again. As you say, with the amount of money we all pay to the BBC and some pay to Sky and ESPN, it is shocking that rights haven't been purchased.

The best thing we can all do is make a stand and tell them to shove their £5/£12.

Presumably the game has been sold to other stations around the world - which means it'll be available for free through the usual p2p sites anyway.

I cannot beleive an international of this importance to England won't be on the tv. I am not prepared to pay a minimum of £5 to watch a shitty stream either so i guess i'll have to make do with any highlights that will be shown. The tv companies should hang their heads in shame.

I am sure the technology is available to transfer the picture but I dont have a 32" TV and a comfy settee so I can sit at my desk squinting at my laptop, watching England is bad enough as it is!

Pay £4.99 to watch England v Ukraine

Postby Crossie » Mon Oct 05, 2009 10:06 am

No TV company wanted to pay for the rights to show it, apparently the rights are owned by Setana, who obviously can't show the game.

So if you want to watch it, you have to pay £4.99 (amount goes up the closer to the game - up to £11.99 on sat!!!) then STREAM IT to your computer.

Bullshit, fuck off, it'll never work.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 286886.stm

Apparently Odeon cinema's are also going to show the game.

Why pay for it when you can just pick a stream from myp2p for free? Yes its illegal, but everyone does it and they cant stop you.

This is absolute bollocks!!! How can a country with so much pride, passion and football power not show an England game on TV? Apparently, England has the best league in the World, yet cannot show its own team to the millions who want to see them Qualify for a major tournament?

It's a DISGRACE, an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE I say!

This is what happens when you privatise the National Sports. Greedy Bastards!

Online broadcast clarification
Monday, 05 October, 2009

Ukraine, as hosts on Saturday, decide who they sell their broadcast rights to.

As there is a lot of debate and conjecture surrounding the way in which Saturday’s World Cup qualifying match between Ukraine and England is broadcast, The FA would like to make some points of clarification.

FA Director of Communications Adrian Bevington explained that it was entirely the decision of the Ukraine Football Association how it sold the broadcast rights to the match.

Bevington said: "The FA has had no authority over the decision to broadcast this match exclusively live on the internet.

"It is the host nation and their commercial agents who have the authority to sell the rights for away fixtures. In this case the Ukranian FA and their agents have sold the broadcast rights for Ukraine v England to the company Perform."

Fans wishing to watch the game live online should go to http://www.UkraineVEngland.com

It doesn't surprise me mate.

For years we have had a situation where you can watch more Premier League football abroad than you can here in the UK so it's not really surprising that it has now spread to the national game.
