Teams on the up

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Teams on the up

Postby ant london » Wed Sep 30, 2009 1:14 pm

I was just having a little shuftie at the league tables for the lower divisions and (although I know it's early days) there are several interesting front runners the the next two divisions.

In League one there is Leeds sitting on top (after having got almost forty thousand into Elland Road for their cup tie against Liverpool last week which is pretty impressive) with MK Dons and Charlton both also looking well placed for a shot at promotion at the moment.

Sadly Southampton look current favourites to drop another division and are rooted to the foot of League One.

In the Championship there is obviously Newcastle leading the way but some real old school big clubs coming up behind them with Preston and Cardiff both currently in the play off spots and just one spot outside the playoffs are Blackpool (who are now managed by that loon Holloway...be funny to see him post match on MOTD!)

Ipswich look to be in a perilous state and the Mittal/Ecclestone/Briatore axis cannot be overly chuffed with a fairly middle of the road mid-table position for QPR.

Sheffield United are in the play off spots but Wednesday are languisghing in mediocrity with QPR.

So, my point is (and it's been asked before I know)....who would you like to see back in the Premiership? I'd like to see Leeds back, Blackpool would be funny....Sheffield Wednesday would also be nice

I'd like to see Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield Wed back in the PL. I like the PL to be full of big City teams with big support. If Wigan were top of the league & Leeds were half way, it'd still be a better atmosphere & something better to look forward to playing Leeds. Who gives a shit about Fulham ffs? Blackburn? Do me a favour. Lets have the deluded Geordies back & the Sheffield/Leeds Yorkie longchins. Big games against proper gits every week.

I should point out that although Leeds got nearly 40k v Scouse, there was less than twenty thousand there on Saturday. Third highest in the Third Div. Big club my arse.
City and sniffing knickers.

Quite fancy seeing Shef Utd back (despite 'balloongate') but not Wed - not really sure why.

More than happy if we never play Leeds again.

Always quite liked Norwich and Ipswich.

Agree, Blackpool would be good, what an away game!

Bristol (either) because they would be easy away games for me, Southampton too.

And Yeovil - but I don't think that's ever going to happen...

I'd love Leeds, Sheff Weds, Sheff Utd, Notts Forest back in the Prem. Big teams who should be in the top tier.

Forest, almost forgotten about them, great shout. And as a Glossopian I always felt a very minor allegiance to Derby County, even though it was 50-odd miles away.

I'd like to see WBA come up as it's one of my favourite grounds and it's easy to get to and swift getting away from it, plus they have a right decent curry pub called The Vine. Blackpool would be a cracking weekend away trip.

I would like to see Forrest back in the big time, and always had a soft spot for Shef Wed. Others would be Newcastle, Derby and Preston. Would also like to see Porstmouth back in the Prem.

Haha.

Shef Wed, Coventry and Notts Forest for me. They're some decent size clubs that were about in the Prem when I started taking note of it around 94/95/96.

Be interesting to see which Nottingham club make it back to the big time first; County have the money but Forest have two divisions worth of a head start.

Some good old football teams that were always "up there" when I was a lad: Preston, Blackpool, Sheff.Wed (they once beat U****d 7-2 in the Cup.) Also Forest and Derby because they were Cloughie's teams. I never want to see Leeds or their vile supporters again, not since a walk of terror to Leeds railway station after City won that Cup tie at Elland Road. Cardiff with their loony fans can stay down for similar reasons. On the other hand, still in Wales a fond but unrealistic hope to come up would be Swansea. Hope Fulham are always in the Prem, one of the best away trips you can do. Remember when Bournemouth were in the top division (Ted MacDougall!) and Carlisle?

would like to see preston have a crack at the prem, however i reckon their potential stay would be a short one.

Notts Forest, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday for me, I'm also firmly with those that believe Leeds should rot in hell. I hope their season implodes and they stay exactly where they are, and that goes for the deluded Geordies too
