Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Bianchi scored a good goal on his debut, first game of the season at the Hammers. It was made by a wonderful surging run and pass by Elano. Bianchi made a really good run and popped up at the far post to sweep home. We won 2-1. I remember Chris Kamara ooing and ahing about us, in particular about Charlie ( Corluka). When Rolando left he wrote a very nice farewell and thanks to City fans on his website. I'm afraid he wasn't good enough for where we are now but a really nice bloke.

Wouldn't take it all as face value - a whole lot of point scoring going on.

that one fucking meaningless result keeps getting repeated over and over and over again. That game meant fuck all.

Guiding that team 9th considering where we were when he took over and circumstances in second half of the season was sterling job. I'm still Sven licker for sure.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

If I was a chairman I'd be just like Taksin and I'd bet a whole lot of others would too. I think he couldn't bare to think of the players being haflhearted about this and that when they were getting paid a fortune and he couldn't bare being told by Sven that this was just the way of football. Sven would have drove me crazy under the same circumstrances. I'd share Taksin's take of more effort = more success. That's why I think it was right to replace Sven with Hughes...unfortunately though Hughes was just a pretender.

Sven deserves little sympathy but much respect (if that makes sense to anyone but me). I wish him all the best but I'll always believe he was not hard done by. (and neither was Hughes). Not a very good manager but a very decent man I think.

Has anyone mentioned that Bianchi has scored 40 goals in 79 games for Torino?

I know its a totally different league etc, but 1 in 2 is a fantastic goal scoring record. He had something, so did Corradi and Samaras, but for some very tiny simple reasons, things just didnt fall right for them.

Everyone had a little wee over the Samaras vids, and he seemed pretty good at first, then got destroyed in the Westham cup game.
Corradi just couldnt score in his first few games and that dented his confidence.

Sven is a gent. Back in 2002, a couple of Fulham supporting mates convinced me to go out to Finland to watch them against FC Haka in the Intertoto. This involved a change of flights in Copenhagen. For some reason we stayed up most of the night before on the beers. There we were in the Copenhagen airport departure lounge, pissed as farts at 10 in the morning, when Sven (then England manager) wandered past on his way to the business lounge, slowed down only by a MASSIVE amount of duty frees.

He possibly wasn't expecting to be accosted by a group of goons asking for a photo with him, but he happily obliged. I still remember as he saw me and said "Ah, Manchester City, not so good at the moment" - harsh!

He did very little wrong at city imo.

I seem to remember him executing a few fancy flicks...no doubt he had a nice touch...but remember little else about him...apart from he was one of the first to adapt the snood! How much was he? 8 million ish? I think he just didn't like it in blighty

That goal against Bristol in the Carling Cup! I thought he was going to bang in 20+ that year!! How easily deluded I am.

It all goes to show, how little of the truth we get to know as it happens, sometimes not finding out for years and often never getting to know the truth about our club.
Having said that, it still doesn't stop us trying to batter each other into submission in debate on here.

I liked Sven, still do. He had a certain style about him.

He knew he had lost his job months before the end of the season. The players also knew that there would be a new man in charge in the Summer.

Thaksin would not speak to him for several days after a defeat but couldn't wait to speak to him, take him for a meal etc after a win.

Thaksin does not understand football and seemed to think that, in order to win every game, the players just needed to be more aggresive.

Sven was never given the reason he lost his job, despite asking several times.

He says his worst siginig was Bianchi and that he thought he was much better than he actually was!

Should be well worth a listen, hopefully it will be available to download as a podcast for those who can't listen to it on the radio.

I dont think there's much there that wasn't known or couldn't be guessed. If he wants to know why he lost his job, maybe about one victory in the 2nd half was something to do with it?

Game didn't mean fuck all, we qualified to Europe via fair play that day in spite of a very dodgy sending off early in the game. The players hardly dared make a tackle after that in case the ref fucked up again.

A meaningless game? The Boro game? A premier league game that is meaningless? I've seen loads of them, but fucking none that saw a lesser team humiliate a superior side EIGHT FUCKING ONE!!!

Fuck that, it was one of the most humiliating days I ever had as a city fan. The abuse was relentless.

I did enjoy the first half of season results under Sven though.

So what meaning did the game have in grand scheme of things. It wouldn't have made any difference on anything if we'd lost 1-0 or 2-1 or drawn 10-10. Winning it would've got us above Portsmouth which would've meant......fuck all.

Most humiliating days as City fan?? We didn't go down to second division. We didn't get relegated. We didn't lose a Derby. We just had a fucking stupid sending off and then got hammered with 10 men and sacked manager away from home in final day of the season. It wasn't nice but I got over it in two days. I still have nightmares of some of our relegations.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
