Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!
by King Kev » Thu Jan 06, 2011 9:40 am
The full interview is on BBC Radio Manchester tonight at 6pm but the bits I have heard make interesting listening;
He knew he had lost his job months before the end of the season. The players also knew that there would be a new man in charge in the Summer.
Thaksin would not speak to him for several days after a defeat but couldn't wait to speak to him, take him for a meal etc after a win.
Thaksin does not understand football and seemed to think that, in order to win every game, the players just needed to be more aggresive.
Sven was never given the reason he lost his job, despite asking several times.
He says his worst siginig was Bianchi and that he thought he was much better than he actually was!
Should be well worth a listen, hopefully it will be available to download as a podcast for those who can't listen to it on the radio.

I still to this day maintain Bianchi would've been class if he was given a chance.
He did very little wrong at city imo.

I seem to remember him executing a few fancy flicks...no doubt he had a nice touch...but remember little else about him...apart from he was one of the first to adapt the snood! How much was he? 8 million ish? I think he just didn't like it in blighty

He had one good season before we signed him. Done nothing since either. He wasnt up to it.

I've got a feeling from past experiences that it may not work m8 - I'm sure we've tried this kind of thing before and it stops you listening if you're abroad. Then again I might be thinking about live commentary - as this isn't that it may be okay.

Bianchi was nowhere near as bad as his signing of Benjani.
This >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> was probabaly in August.

Benjani 2008–2010 Manchester City 23 (4)
Bianchi 2007–2008 Manchester City 19 (4)
He was never me,me,me but always you, you, you

I'd agree with that.
Nery was just shocking.
I remember him trying one his mazy runs at Everton.
By mazy, i mean straight rigid head down and hope runs....
He looked good on youtube though...

I saw evidence that Castillo did actually know how to play football. Admittedly not while he was with us. Bianchi on the other hand. Hmmmm.
City and sniffing knickers.
Come on Blues.

He is... but in Serie B. If he was all that he'd have been snapped up by a top-flight club again, but his career record in Serie A is a tad gash.

Incidentally..
Chicago Fire (2010 loan)
'On 17 July 2010, the Chicago Fire announced the signing of Castillo as their newest designated player. He arrived on loan with Chicago holding the option to make the transfer from Shakhtar Donetsk permanent. In being signed as a designated player, he became the second youngest designated player in Major League Soccer.
In 2011, Blackpool F.C. completed the loan of Nery Castlillo an he is expected to play as a starter. history.'

So Far...
Sven says he considers he bought very good players.
He says everything fell apart when they all found out that Sven would be going at the end of the season, in a meeting a couple of months before the end of the season. He said players knew about this and were very angry about this and he struggled to motivate them from then on, he is thankful to the players and the fans for their attitude towards him and their want for him to stay. He admits the last two or three games were awful.
He said Frank did not understand football at all but he thought football was easy, just tell the player to be aggresive, Sven disagreed. Frank couldnt take losing, he would not speak to Sven for a week after a loss yet he'd be all dinner and hugs after a win. Sven asked many times why he was sacked and Frank said "I dont know". He knew in the Thailand Tour that he was going and people were talking behind his back about it, the players did not want to go on the tour.

Ha! This seems ages ago now! Wasn't Bianchi record signing at the time? I remember Hughes playing him at Stockport in a pre season game and that was the end.
Sven's signings were so random I'd never heard of most them!

Likes his current job and although he'd love the job at City he'd like to face us home and away with Leicester one day (I am pretty sure he means in the prem). Calls Leicester a project and believes they will be Premier League.
Sven says Mancini is the second best man for the City job (jokingly after himself) After talking about working with Mancini he said Bobby Manc was a genius as a player.
Sven looks at results of all the clubs he has been involved with, he said all clubs he has been involved with have been good people.
He really really loves football, says its a drug, once you've done it you dont want to be without it. A dream for all young kids, his dream at 7 or 8 was to be a pro player in Italy.
Proud of his fortunes and people are very kind to him, very polite in England.
Sven likes Rod Stewart, Elton John... He joked about liking Abba "The winner takes it all"
