Since I couldn't understand the negativity of a few on here regarding the Schlong, I thought I'd check out a couple of other boards to see if there was a similar reaction. I wouldn't normally read another site but I thought it might be right and proper in order to get gauge opinion, rather than just on here. Anyway, below is an extract from 2 (both with continuous quotes):
From CityMancs:
Nigel De Jong is the best defensive midfielder in the league. An absolutely fantastic player, some of his tackles last night were simply brilliant. He has shown in his last three games that he should be one of the first names on the team sheet every single week
Smashing player I hope he does not want to leave!
be interesting when kompany gets back. kompany, de jong and barry seems pretty good in the middle
Yeah- we'd never concede with that midfield
kompany and barry like to go forward so we wont even miss out on any attacking runs
Great to see that players coming in are desperate to grab their chance, we haven`t had it in a long time!
Curiously, me and the guy next to me were thinking that he wasn`t the man for such a game as last night because when a team pitch up and don`t hardly make any effort to go forward, it almost makes the requirement for a defencive MF redundant.
However, he did play very well again and he did try to create a bit more too. Sometimes players get too easliy tagged. Just cos his main strength is defending and breaking up opposition play doesn`t mean he can`t create and get forward.
I seem to recall reading that he was a striker at Ajax and even as recent as when he went to Hamburg, it was their coach who converted him.
he was right back at ajax more often than not
Nige gets forward quite a bit when he plays for Holland. Undoubtedly MOTM last night.
From BlueMoon:
You have to admit that before the season started, you would never have expected him to feature AT ALL this season. But he's turning into the player that we payed £17m for.
Well Done Nigel.
i like him but were will kompany go. could you play barry de jong and kompany. leaving ireland out or leave swp out as ireland did play in swp position befor he came (badly though)
I always expected him to play a big role. But yeah he has been fantastic. I'm becoming less convinced that Yaya Toure would even be a significant improvement on him, he's been that good. Okay Yaya's distribution is probably better but it would still be a shame in a way if Nige was replaced by him at the end of the season, because he hasn't put a foot wrong and I can't see him doing either, he's a very consistant performer.
de jong......kompany..........barry.......... while ireland aint in form we could easily do this and it will hopefully make him raise his game
How did he get on last night? In fact could someone summarise all the players performances for me please?
Hopefully, Kompany will raise his game, otherwise he'll be a benchwarmer. This is all part of having a big, strong squad though and we should be happy with the problem. Personally, I'm not convinced that Lescott is the best or even the second best centre half at the club, so Kompany may get his opportunity there.
Never have expected him to feature at all, are you sure about that? I thought he would play quite a number of games.
It seems that many of you have never seen NdJ play before this season. If Y. Touré DOES come in Jan or next season, it's curtains for Kompany as Y. Touré can hold his own as a defender if he's REALLY needed.
..........NdJ..................Touré
....................Barry..............
is the future on a regular basis, if Touré signs. Ireland will be the new Elano and Kompany(who is overrated) is surplus to requirements, i.e., history.
can i stop you there please, why the hell would we never had expected him to start this season? he is an amazing player and we are not turning him into anythink he was the same player when we bought him(CLASS),such a stupid thread he is an international football player ffs and for holland aswell.Do you know anythink?
Well, after reading them (not in full of course) it became pretty clear that most, if not all, are of the opinion that he is class and that the few on here are very much in the minority.
One thing I would like to ask those who have the belief that the Schlong is not good for our team, is how do you come to your opinions; is it by 1st hand experience at the match, from the TV, from the radio or through other sources?Just to state my own for you, I make my opinion by way of all the above, but mainly from 1st hand experience at the match. And, although I did not know that much about Nigel when we went in for him, was willing to see how he panned out (especially after paying in the region of 17 mil), and from what I've seen of the guy so far, he is proving to be a very good signing and an excellent player in the 1st team, and if he really can play in an all-round role, we may see a few of our current 1st teamers warming the bench!
