good to hear that Hughes' inevitable bollocking worked and he started working.

I'm going to have this post stuffed and put on my mantelpiece.
It is the posts of posts, a giant amongst posts, the holy grail.
It is Dan Brown. It is Derren Brown.
NQDP you are peerless. Thank you.

I was feeling you until you mentioned Dan Brown. I've never been insulted in such severe way.

Mate you're more like fucking Charlie Brown.
Hughes inevitable bollocking? De Jong's been very good since his first game this season. MOTM last night and two very good performances against two of the best sides in world football.
I'm chuffed we have this fella, because like the rest of the team, once the gel has set, he'll be integral.

No, I heard he was MOTM last night, then I watched the highlights, then I heard first hand account from those who attended.
You?

Watched the highlights and didn't see De Jong once so like I said in above post, I have no idea. He won the MOM by people who went to game though and I don't think I've disagreed with winner of MOM for a long while so I think it's fair to assume he had a good game (despite being taken off).
But I never comment on games I haven't seen, like Pretty Boy Lee.

I feel to see why you have made this comment as it has no relevance at all on his performance. He was taken off after 90 minutes, and he was mingling around with the other players during the team talks both before ET and during HT in ET with his right boot taken off. Might be nothing, but to have his left boot on at the same time suggests to me that he was taken off because of a niggling injury perhaps - I'm speculating at the injury part, perhaps dougs training report will shed light on that. It just looked odd to be walking around with only one boot on.......
I can categorically state that he was not taken off due to his performance, he was easily the best player on the park last night. Of all 26-27 players that took part last night, he was easily head and shoulders above every single one of them!!!

Fuck me, some people seek some hidden meanings in my posts like they are..... well Dan Brown novels.
Like I said above TWICE, I didn't see the game so I'm in no position to comment. Just noticed doing the stats that he was off in extra time and I didn't even realise it last night "following" the game on teletxt and here. About ten people out of fifteen who went say he was MOM so I'm sure he had good game.
Ted Hughes wrote:I was really watching DeJong very very closely last night (because he was outstanding & the game was piss so it gave me something to do) & imo we're only seeing half his game. He's often being ultra careful not to try anything too adventurous & risk giving the ball away but on the few occasions where he did try to be more creative he looked just as capable as Barry or Ireland.
In the same way everyone was shocked last season to find that Ireland can tackle & run, I think we may have a similar shock coming that DeJong can attack. He's just doing a job for the team & trying to do it responsibly, there's more to come.

de Jong actually was an attacker when he was younger. He was only converted to defensive midfielder. I've seen him play a much more dynamic game for Holland and he shows snapshots for us. But he gets more of his criticism from us when he tries to send someone clear on the break and it doesn't come off.

I seem to remember that De Jong was actually striker when he first broke through in Ajax (one of our Dutch posters might set me straight but that's how I remember)! Then he was playing as attacking midfielder and later in box-to-box role in Ajax. I believe it was only in Hamburg he adopted the defensive midfielder role.
Original Dub wrote:Well by all accounts come the next couple of season we should have some seriously all round midfielders, between Ireland, Barry, De Jong and Johnson.
If the plan comes off, they can all do a job at everything in midfield!
