CARLOS TEVEZ has urged Fernando Torres to join him at Manchester City.

Eastlands boss Roberto Mancini admitted at the weekend he wants to sign the Liverpool striker.

And Tevez reckons they could become the deadliest duo in the Premier League.

The Argie said: "Torres would definitely make us better. He's one of the top strikers in the world and I would love to have him as a team-mate.

"Last year we ended up contesting the Champions League places. I have no doubt that this year we will achieve that aim and fight for the title.

"The club will pick up reinforcements and this will make us stronger.

"I know I've never regretted coming to City. It's the best decision I ever made."

However Kop boss Roy Hodgson insists World Cup-winning ace Torres is staying put.

The ex-Fulham chief feared losing the £50million-rated starbut he is now excited about welcoming the Spaniard back to Melwood next week.

Hodgson, whose season starts tomorrow at Macedonian side Rabotnicki in Europa League qualifying, said: "He's told us he's looking forward to Monday.

"Looking forward to getting back to work and looking forward to playing for Liverpool next season.

"He's enjoying a well-deserved holiday, his first in three years."

Berbatov wins golden boot, spends following season on the bench while his team loses title on goal difference. Well played, Fergie.

To be honest, I reckon he makes Richards look like a girl.

Is there a picture of him smiling anywhere? Every pic I've seen, he looks like someone's nicked his last rolo.

Tottenham are planning to offer Manchester City a cheeky £4million for Craig Bellamy.

In January 2009, City beat Spurs to sign Bellamy from West Ham for £14m, but they now need to sell players before the season starts to meet new 25-man Premier League squad rules.

‘It is clear some of the players we have will have to be left off,’ said boss Roberto Mancini.

Meanwhile, Santos hope to keep Robinho on loan and Fenerbahce are interested in Roque Santa Cruz.

City want a permanent deal for £160,000-a-week Robinho but Santos cannot afford it.

One man definitely going is FA Youth Cup-winning coach Alex Gibson.

He was heavily reported in Italy last week as being about to fly to Manchester this week, so it would hardly be a surprise.

Real Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho Backs Down Over Benfica Defender David Luiz's Price Tag
Manchester City left to swoop for centre back...

By Andrew McLean
Jul 29, 2010 8:21:00 AM

Manchester City have taken pole position in the race to sign Benfica centre back David Luiz, as Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho accepts the player's price tag is too high.

Mourinho told TV1 Spain, "I like him a lot, but he will not come to Madrid this year.

"There was a little contact, but the price is prohibitive. After all that was spent on last year's Madrid, now we do not have much to spend."

Los Blancos are still looking to shell out €25 million in acquiring Milan's Brazilian defender Thiago Silva, clearly with still transfer kitty to spend. as Stuttgart midfielder Sami Khedira also edges closer to signing.

The blue half of Manchester now are in the clear to capture their man with a reported bid of €33 million

SkySports wrote:Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is prepared to take Robinho back and is closing in on his top transfer targets.

The Blues continue to track Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli and Aston Villa midfielder James Milner, with the club showing no signs of slowing down after a busy summer of market activity.

They have already spent big in their efforts to force their way into the Premier League's top four and Mancini has confirmed to Sky Sports News that he is still hopeful of bringing in more new recruits.

Speaking after City's latest pre-season friendly on their American tour, against Club America, the Italian revealed that he is optimistic regarding moves for Milner and Balotelli, who have been strongly linked with moves to Eastlands for some time.

Mancini also confirmed that he expects Brazilian playmaker Robinho to return to the club in the near future.

Situation
The Samba star was loaned out to his former employers Santos last season, having struggled to make the desired impact in English football.

However, having shone back in his homeland and at the 2010 World Cup, he could be awarded a second opportunity to prove his worth with City.

Mancini claims he would have no problem welcoming Robinho back into the fold, but admits that the player must be happy if he is produce his best form.

"At this moment, no. But it depends on him," he told Sky Sports News when asked whether he had any issue with taking the Brazilian back.

He added: "The situation is that Robinho will finish his contract with Santos. After that he will stay in Brazil for another week, play for the national team and after that he will return to Manchester City."
