OG Or Micah's Goal?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

OG Or Micah's Goal?

Postby King Kev » Sun Sep 13, 2009 9:43 am

At the time I said it was an own goal as the original header was off target as it hit the post then wen in off Almunia.

BUT, having seen it again on the tele it looks like Almunia got a touch to the original shot to push it onto the post, therefore the original header could have been on target.

So, own goal or Micah's goal?

The telling deflection comes from his head when the ball was travelling away from goal. Sadly it's an OG cause it would have been nice for him to get on the scoresheet.

Don't think it matters whether he did or he didn't. He saved the header, tipped it onto the post and the ball was coming away from goal when it hit his head and put it in the goal. I'd love to give it to Micah but not on this occasion. If he plays like that every week he'll get plenty more goals though.

The ball wouldnt have gone in if it hadn't struck Almunia's head though, that's the point. It's not like it was deflected in - it was completely down to Almunia. I would have loved to give it to Micah because his performance throughout the whole match deserved a goal.

I'm just watching the game again - whilst its definately almunias fault it was a goal, I don't reckon it was on OG - looked to be going in before he pushed it against the post and the rebound was going in before it bounced off his head - NOT an own goal imo

Own Goal.
Micah retains all of the credit for an excellent header though.
All we are saying is give Doug a pass.

Should be Micahs' goal but the arseholes on the Dubious Goals panel will no doubt give it to Almunia, cos he quite clearly would want to take the credit for it

He did.

Doesnt change the fact that it was an own goal.

It was going in before that though - and after when it cannoned off his bonce. Not an own goal.

If at all there was a chance that the original shot can go in without interference from the keeper, then the goal has to stand.

Because you can not say for DEFINITE that it wouldn't have gone in off the other post, its Micah's goal IMO.

A save is slightly differet from a deflection im sure you will agree.

The premise of which is explained earlier in the thread by other posters.

The best way to settle this is to wait and see what the Premier League say.

Fuck mate that's the lamest opinon I've heard of late.

The premier league's opinion has oft differed greatly to mine. It settled nothing in my mind on many occassions.

I'm suprised actually.

Right yeah. But if they say its an own goal, then it's an own goal, whether you agree or not. as you know.

It's absolute certainty for an own goal. Almunia touched the ball twice before it went into net and it didn't just take a deflection but it went to net from Almunia's head, otherwise it would've just hit the post. 100% certain.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
