I think the Socceroos should treat this as a practice match for that forthcoming encounter and just pretend that Germany are in fact Italy.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/world_cup_2006/4991534.stmhere is an excerpt from the mild mannered BBC for the lazy
With the clock ticking down, Fabio Grosso marauded down the left flank and worked his way into the box before falling over Lucas Neill's prone body.
Totti kept his nerve to convert with the last kick of the game, breaking Australian hearts in Kaiserslautern.
I swear to God if I ever saw Grosso walking down the street I would punch him in the testes. Was praying that he'd miss his penalty in the final.
If we somehow get out of our group I hope we draw Italy. That slimy fucker is injured this time though.
was Totti who converted.. but that wasn't his fault.. it was as you say the cheating rag Grosso.
Im not Aus.. i respect their hard work and organisation and spirit.. and i will never forget that game as it was one of the most despicable acts of cheating in football after the Australians had to all intents and purposes pretty much outplayed Italy for the whole game. How the fuclin ref fell for it i have no idea.. but the whole thing made me super indignant.. i was ranting non stop for hours.. still haven't forgotten it and never will until the BIG REVENGE arrives.
cmon Aus..remember the last kick of the last WC finals game you played.. (i know it is Germany but it doesn't matter)

zeeee germans are looking awesome going forward, playing like a team rather than 11 players
aussies are quite shit though doubt they would look this good against a decent attacking team.

2-0
brilliant game to watch so far. Real end to end stuff. Krauts having been so enjoyable to watch in past couple of competitions has made it almost impossible to hate them. Mind you, almost.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Not a bad first half, for Germans and neutrals anyway. Aussies had some chances too.

Ozil is having a good game. Would love to see him in a City shirt.
If Germany score early in the second half IMO they could get quite a few more. Some of the footballing they are playing is really pleasing on the eye.

only skinned three times in first half (once by that pedestrian Aussie left back). Got to agree though, that's massive improvement on his usual standards.

is he too modern to defend well enough in your mind? his attacking is undoubted. His defensive liabilities, tho overstated by you i think, are more than outweighed with he offers going forward. Do you disagree with that?

He got a nice block fairly early on - I thought it was the keeper saving it until I saw the slow mo replay.

This. He was the reason we did not go 0:1 down.

generally I like fullbacks who can defend well. If they can do something extra, like Alves mentioned on another topic, great. But they need to know how to defend.
Maybe I'm bit old fashioned like that. Then again, there are people who thought Roberto Carlos was good fullback. Yeah, I know, it's crazy.
