That's only if the defender attempts to play the ball.

The Brentford defender in this instance didn't attempt to play the ball and simply pulled Mbueno back. Ergo, it was a red card offence the way I saw it

Apparently the explanation being given is that Mbueno didn't have the ball so not a goal scoring opportunity, so the double jeopardy rule wasn't the reason.

Very bizarre reason as it definitely was a goal scoring opportunity.

But who cares, fuck the rags
