In general, the Foden I am watching now is inferior to the Foden I was watching two seasons ago.
Loss of form for players who get involved in difficult protracted contract negotiations is not unusual.
The negotiations have been on-going for the guts of two years now.
Phil is a generational talent, would hate to see him leave but until he signs on the dotted line anything is possible.
Anybody else concerned over this or is it only me?

Wasn’t Phil exceptional in his last game for city?

He was and also took his goal well. Also, helped turn the match against Dortmund when he came on.
In general though, over the past 18 months, there has been a dip in form, imo. I was just pondering if the contract situation dragging on is becoming an issue.

Correct. Apart from Sevilla and Wolves his rating on WhoScored has been in the 6’s for most matches. He’s definitely better than that.
I’d say he’s having his first dip in form, which is natural, but the contract situation may also be playing a part in it. Players perform differently when they’re due a new deal. Look at Stones - absolutely class and never injured just before he signed his new deal.

The contract is only not signed because his agent and friend died

I think his agent died 18 months ago.
He signed up with Unique Sports 12 months ago.
There is a new contract on the table, unsigned.

Little bastard, what’s his problem

Fuck what the national media say about him, he’s one of the best things we’ve ever produced and to judge him on the state of an international know fuck all, who plays him out of position, is a joke.
Go on Phil, fuck the lot of them.

Has been brilliant on the right, drifts in onto his left peg.
Now get that contract sorted Phil.

Phil was brilliant yesterday.
I wonder how much playing the false nine role has helped him improve. Those runs, timing and positioning in the box.
Pep showing again how he develops and improves players?

One thing Foden playing as a false 9 or even as a forward will have done is given him knowledge of what a striker wants, so when he is playing his usual role he is better suited to delivering the balls in that Haaland now thrives on as he understands the bigger picture better.
You see on his first goal. Him and Grealish were both in similar positions but only Foden was aware of the space and made the run which ultimately led to the chance and goal
