On form, stones and dias as above. He was shocking yesterday but first game in months after injury.
I love laportes passing and goal threat, but always always drops a bollock defensively in big games.
Dropped a couple but Stones is far worse in my opinion. That foul for the 3rd goal was crazy especially with Trippier in their team.
Also Laporte's record with Dias last season is better than the Stones/ Dias famous bromance of the previous year.
Dias, Laporte, Ake, Stones for me.
Bang on , saved me posting the same .
Stones can’t pass it is painful watching him live at a game and players moving for him for space to pass into but he hasn’t got the ability to make that forward pass so it goes backwards or a short sideways one .

Plain wrong, Stones is an excellent passer of the ball.

Can be. But prone to giving it to the other side sometimes. Needs to be 100%.
Stones to me is like Mahrez - slow starter and needs a run in the team to get to good form, when he can be excellent. It's just getting him going that's the issue.

We desperately need a new scapegoat now Gabby, Zinch and Razza have gone.

Stones gave the ball to one of their players by trying to chip it to a City player that then led to Newcastle counting us. On the whole I think his passing is fine, but Sunday it was off. As was his whole play - the free kick he gave away for Trippier’s goal.
It’s not using someone as a scapegoat to point out basic flaws in someone’s game surely?

Stones passing is shite .
He is a good defender his important goal line clearances over the years prove this plus he is very good in the air .
It is his overall passing ability within the system that generally lets him down .
Watch him closely on Saturday if he plays . We have no other fucker available so he surely starts ?

And for all those who still can’t fathom that John Stones can’t pass a ball forward or who need a trip to spec savers……….
Man City starting eleven v Villa at home final game of last season to win the PL . Stones starts admittedly out of position ( injuries) and it is an absolute disaster as he can’t pass the fucking ball to anyone and we have a first half disaster similar to Newcastle last weekend. Stones gets hauled off at half time , Zinchenko replaces him and has the game of his life …….. the rest is history.
John Stones can’t fucking pass a ball forward !!!

Spec Savers? You certainly need 'em C64 + a memory tonic. Stones played a full 90 in the Villa game, he moved to the middle to replace Fern when Zinch came on. This idea he can't pass is simply ridiculous - possibly the best footballing CB there is in the PL.

You still think Raheem Sterling is a footballing god so I will happily stick with my opinion that John Stones can’t pass a football forward.
Thanks !

He can pass- but not as well as the other 3. He plays more short sideways passes than any CB I've ever known and a load of passes backwards to the keeper when he's near to him that would put any other keeper but Eddie in trouble as proven with the cock ups for England.

Unfair, Stones undeniably has his faults but is more positive than Dias or Ake, Laporte is the best I agree in terms of forward passing and breaking out.

I think Dias was by far the best defender on Sunday- constantly made surging runs forward as well and always looking for an attacking pass. No way on earth Stones is more positive than him.

Agreed Diaz was the man in form on Sunday and Stones had an off day as has already been commented. I still maintain he is more positive than Dias ceteris paribus.

Stones used to get loads of stick in the British media for only being able to pass and not being able to actually defend. This was heightened during Peps first season when he kept encouraging him to carry on trying to play and we were pretty shit! He proved all those detractors wrong and earned his new City contract when it looked like he was on his way.
Now 64 is saying he can only defend and not pass (a complete lie).
Sunday wasn't his best game by a long way but let's not rewrite history.
Main issue with Stones is staying fit long enough to get a run of games to reach his best form. He has always been ropy when being chopped and changed.
I think our 4 CBs are the envy of the league. Especially looking at the state of all our rivals

Oi Billy Bullshit , John Stones cannot pass a ball forward out of defence FACT .
A lie ????
Fuck off !
John Stones main issue is the FACT he cannot pass a ball forward out of defence so he doesn’t get selected very often. And the fact he is even worse under Southgate with England proves this point . He can defend though and is good in the air . He isn’t a bad player but the opposite. BUT he can’t pass the ball forward out of defence which is vital in OUR system !!!!
Clown .
