Everyone in the football media seems to be making a big thing about City not winning the champions league . Please win it this time Pep just to shit these fuckers up. Probably will still not be recognised for our achievements though

It will 100% change to “they have only won it once “

The easier Manchester City make it look, the less credit they get

So, that is the first time a team has scored four in the first half of a Champions League knockout game.

Of course it was Manchester City. They are so good they can turn up at the home of the champions of another country and make it look like a trip to Carrow Road.

But it can be hard to know where to pitch City’s brilliance sometimes. Was their evisceration of Sporting Lisbon the latest demonstration of their technical and tactical brilliance or a damning indictment of the state of football?

Maybe a bit of both. Look at the other games in which a team has scored more than four away from home in the Champions League knockout rounds and it’s all the same sort of thing: Bayern Munich and Liverpool did it to Sporting and Porto. Real Madrid did it to Schalke. Schalke did it to Inter Milan, which is a bit of an outlier, and Bayern did it to Arsenal, which was probably a time to start worrying about The State of the Game.

All these results have happened since 2009. Europe’s elite have been pulling away from the rest for ages, and City jumped on board before UEFA made it almost impossible for anybody else to do so — directly or indirectly — with financial fair play.

If European football is heading further and further away from The Good Old Days then the blame can hardly be laid at City’s door.

And of that list above, only Real Madrid went on to win the competition after handing out their hidings. City have done similar to Basel and Borussia Monchengladbach in recent years, too, but things get much tougher in the later rounds, so there’s no point in getting carried away in either direction.

And try this one on for size: City weren’t even at their best in Lisbon. Yet they still had the whole tie wrapped up within 32 minutes. Is that to be praised, feared or both?

“The players know me, we can do better,” Pep Guardiola said. “A few players didn’t do what they have to do in the build-up. I’m incredibly happy, please don’t misunderstand me, but we can do better.”

That is why their players get up in the morning and prepare for every game the
Indeed, Guardiola insisted the difference between the two teams was not five goals. He did not like how they lost the ball in vulnerable positions, they did not exploit the spaces available to them.

During the game, he was stomping his feet in disgust as his side gave the ball away. Ruben Dias pumped his fist in celebration when a Sporting free kick drifted safely out of play. City were 5-0 up when Guardiola lost his cool. That free kick was the last action of the entire match, Dias just wanted the clean sheet that much.

Guardiola pointed out the other day that perfection is impossible, not just in football but in life, but it looks like they are aiming for it.

That is why their players get up in the morning and prepare for every game the same way, whether they are playing Swindon Town or Sporting. It’s so easy to take for granted that it is almost a curse.

The better they are, the easier they make it look, the less credit they get. It’s why Guardiola gets asked about whether he’ll be a failure or not if he doesn’t win the Champions League with this team. Wind the clock back a few years and the question was whether his football could work in England. Now he’s on the way to four titles in five years the new question, is why can’t he do more?

They win so many games it’s easy to forget that they have only lost one out of the last 21, and that was the last game in the Champions League group, which they had already won. They did draw one, as well. Standards are clearly slipping because last year they won 24 in a row.

Maybe Newcastle United will beat Portuguese champions Rio Ave 5-0 in 15 years and we will know that all you need to get to the top is a billion pounds but when you look around Europe at the clubs who have squandered their financial advantages through various indulgences — Manchester United, Barcelona, all the Italian clubs — there has to be an element of begrudging respect from even the staunchest critic for how well City can get 11 men to kick a ball around.

There was a stat at the weekend that showed that City have gone 1-0 up in a match 19 times in the Premier League this season, and 19 times they have gone on to win.

Of course they would do, right? They are really rich and really good and they have at least 17 really good players, obviously they will just keep winning.

Maybe it is as simple as that. But there has to be something said for a system which can bring together 17 top-class players, to keep them all happy despite the fact they cannot all play as much as they like, and for them to be coached in such a way that even when they are shuffled around, the outcome is the same.

To anybody who knows what it is like to have £100 million and have to spend it wisely, to anybody who knows what it takes to get a group of players to do what you are asking of them, it will not sound simple.

The Sporting fans were clapping City’s goals by the end. The end of the first half, that is. They were pretty good.

TAA confirming he is a total bellend.
Name checked City for not winning CL. Stated 'ok they won a couple of PLs' but Liverpool have won the important trophies the PL and CL.
Then said one trophy a year was the Liverpool target and they have a chance of that next week in the LC final, totally unaware that he had implicitly rubbished the LC in his previous sentence.

TAA ignoring that under Pep it is 3 PLs, 1 FA cup, 4 League cups. Included a treble, 100 points, etc...

Dippers what a bunch of bellends.

I think TAA is trying to play mind games, the thick scally just motivated our boys and put more pressure on his own team.

To be fair to Simon Jordan, he called out scousers for only winning the league once in past 30 years and the premiere league is harder to win the champions League. He also said the vermins won it whilst not being champions of their own league which is flawed.

He's still a cunt

That cunt on BT Ian Darke has become the new Tyler now that prehistoric cunt is being phased out. Darke is utterly anti city and somehow gets the majority of our CL games to spout his shite , agenda eh !?!?!?

At the start of the league's final run in in 2012, Mancini TV interview after a game.

"Can City still win the League?
"NO."
"Why do you think you can't win the League/"
"Because you in the media says we can't."

I still can't get my head round why any of you still bother to listen or read the sports' media shite. What they say is shite, what they print is shite. Usually sensationalist garbage with no substance. Yet the sheeple swallow it whole and buy into it.

Like puppets, they pull your strings and you do their dance....WHY?

NONE OF THEIR SHITE CHANGES THE REALITY THAT WE ARE MILES AHEAD OF EVERY OTHER ENGLISH TEAM, PLAYING THE BEST FOOTBALL, SCORING SHED LOADS OF GOALS AND WINNING SHED LOADS OF POINTS AND SITTING COMFORTABLY ON TOP OD THE LEAGUE.

Fuck the media...deal with the reality

Why do we need headlines/ Why do we need to try and compete with the rags & dippers for media stories?
The competition is on the pitch. They can have all the headlines but we have the points and trophies. That's what we compete for.
