Just got this off the beeb -:

Premier League condemns Super League proposal
The Premier League has just released a statement criticising English clubs who want to sign up for a European Super League (which reportedly includes Manchester United).

"The Premier League condemns any proposal that attacks the principles of open competition and sporting merit which are at the heart of the domestic and European football pyramid," it says.

"Fans of any club in England and across Europe can currently dream that their team may climb to the top and play against the best. We believe that the concept of a European Super League would destroy this dream."

Now a joint statement from several different official organisations criticining these new proposals...

"UEFA, the English Football Association and the Premier League, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga, and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and Lega Serie A have learned that a few English, Spanish and Italian clubs may be planning to announce their creation of a closed, so-called Super League," it reads.
And there’s more off FIFA/EUFA
"If this were to happen, we wish to reiterate that we – UEFA, the English FA, RFEF, FIGC, the Premier League, LaLiga, Lega Serie A, but also FIFA and all our member associations - will remain united in our efforts to stop this cynical project, a project that is founded on the self-interest of a few clubs at a time when society needs solidarity more than ever."

The Guardian quotes the Times as reporting 5 English clubs have signed up, City being the only member of the 'big six' not to have done so.

We'd better not have anything to do with this whatsoever.

I hope so. I think if we tell them to do one we’ll come out of this looking very good in the media.

Shameful behaviour from all 6 clubs.

This could be massive, it’s timed just before UEFA announcement of change in CL format, I always thought any player who played in such a breakaway league would put their international career in jeopardy

If this is true it's a mistake by the club.
It's worth mentioning the new adustments to the Champion's League are supposed to be announced on Monday, maybe this is an attempt to influence it?

My feelings about UEFA and FIFA should be well known, but this means City has failed to consult the fans about OUR club and it's future - this is HUGE if true.

Agreed. Utterly unacceptable if true. Soriano and his personal greed must NOT under any circumstances be allowed to affect the long-term security of our football club.

I hope we are going to fuck the other English clubs involved in this over. It would be well deserved.

Other than greed, what reason on Earth would there be for MCFC to climb into bed with them now?

Anyway, I thought were cosying up to FIFA...?

We had a brief discussion about him in another thread, he cannot sign just yet as he isn't 18 until June and even then he's not coming until summer 2022 then not sure if to the ETIHAD or one of the sister clubs. iirc the money mentioned last week was circa £5m but talk of his mate joining in the deal at £9M.

I think the general consensus was that more than likely a money spinner than top flight talent, hence no rush. we did manage get a few cake puns out off it though

I don't understand peoples problem with this, we are not UCL elite as we haven't won it, let alone multiple times, he does say we want to be.

He does however say that the Premier is the priority which either has been taken out of context or Sheikh has changed his priorities?

I have have a problem with him alluding to City “not being in the elite “ because he is not using the same context as you, we have this when we play the rags, blowing smoke up their collective arses, getting fed up of it to be honest, if as he says the PL is the priority, the implication being it is harder to win, why does he then big up what he deems to be an inferior competition?
