Nicolas Otamendi suffered an embarrassing start to his career at Benfica after giving away two goals and a penalty during his debut.
The Argentinian joined the Portuguese outfit in a £13million deal after spending five years at Manchester City - where he picked up seven trophies.
However, fans were left somewhat unimpressed with the man who promised to help 'Benfica grow' after his dismal performance against Primeira Liga's bottom side Farense on Sunday.
Otamendi infuriated supporters by giving away a penalty for a foul on Serbian striker Nikola Stojiljkovic.
The 32-year-old was shown a yellow card for his challenge, but much to his delight midfielder Ryan Gauld missed his opportunity to convert from the spot for Farense.
In addition, Otamendi was blamed for Jonatan Lucca's equaliser after he lost an aerial battle to see the 26-year-old slot one past Odysseas Vlachodimos.
Benfica won the game 3-2, however, Otamendi was criticised for handing the visitors their second of the evening.
Benfica were leading 3-1 into added time but Otamendi's indecisiveness on the ball saw Farense striker Patrick rob him of the ball in the middle of the pitch and go on to score on the counter.
Following the game Otamendi took to Twitter to express his delight at achieving three points on his debut, saying: 'Very happy with my debut and to win the three points.'
However fans were quick to snap back at the Argentinian, with many calling him a 'waste of money'.
