So the new season is almost upon us for us Blues. Seems weird most every other team will have played twice before we take the field in our opener, but it is what it is.
What are fellow posters hopes for the upcoming season?
Obviously winning the PL again would be fantastic. Or finally conquering Europe. Chelsea in particular have strengthened and it appears they have done good business. Despite Klopps protestations the dippers have also boosted their numbers. Arsenal under Arteta have improved. So a number of our rivals have addressed previous deficiencies. We are, IMO, still short of a striker. A centre half would galvanise us as well as everyone is aware. Ake is a solid PL player and Torres looks sharp but I doubt he is ready to be thrown straight in at the deep end as it were. We have lost Sane and Silva as well.
I personally, as always, would simply take winning the PL as a belting season. A cup run would be nice as a bonus in addition
I do think the PL is between us and the dippers. I just can’t see anyone else getting the 90+ required points and finishing ahead of both us and the dippers. We are certainly good enough to win it and it should be a lot tighter this time around.
Failing winning the PL, then second and winning a cup or two would also be more than acceptable in my view. Any season with a pot on the sideboard come May (or July/August) has to be considered a good one IMO.
CL success which has eluded us so far will be high on the clubs agenda. Not too bothered about it personally as would always rather win the domestic league but success in the CL can only be considered a good thing.
I also hope we finish top of the scoring charts again and reach 100 league goals once again
In terms of playing personnel, I also hope this is Foden breakthrough season where he really makes a name for himself and that we get to see a bit more of the Academy boys in cups and certain league games. Doyle, Delap, Harewood-Belis are names that spring to mind and there are undoubtably others knocking on the door of the first team squad
Whether Pep stays or goes, either during or at the end of the season, doesn’t concern me at the moment. He has been great for us so far and no one can see into the future so there’s little benefit in worrying about what may or may not happen
Hopefully, fans can return in numbers sooner rather than later as it just isn’t the same without them.
Come tomorrow night all the tribulations of pre season will be put to one side and we will all be cheering on the boys. Let the fun begin
