Duck Mouth at it again

Postby Chopper » Sun Sep 08, 2013 4:40 pm

Dumb and delusional.

Rio Ferdinand believes the massed ranks of foreign players in the Premier League is bound to hamper England's chances of future success.

Ferdinand, 34, was speaking at the end of a week which saw new Football Association chairman Greg Dyke highlight the "frightening trend" of a reduced number of domestic players in the top flight.

The Manchester United defender, who came through the ranks at West Ham, told The Mail on Sunday: "Having so few English players in the Premier League diminishes the English team, of course it does.

"Look at the Manchester City game recently against Newcastle. There was barely an English player on the pitch, three out of 22 starters.

"That is a disgrace.

"If you look at it and ask whether there should be a stipulation that you have a minimum number of players who are English, even just in your squad, I think that should happen.

"If you look at a lot of teams, there are England players who aren't playing for their clubs - yet we're hoping to go to a World Cup and do well!"

Although it would be nigh-on impossible to implement, Ferdinand would look to copy the example of Turkey, adding: "I would do what Turkey do, and have limits.

"In that country, clubs can have a maximum of 10 foreign players on the books, and no more than six in any 18-man matchday squad.

"I know that European laws won't let a legal quota happen. So you can't do that. But if you want to protect English football and its heritage and its future, something like that has to be done."

He's such a fucking idiot it's not even funny.

Someone needs to tell camel gob that england will win the world cup when england are the best team in the world, not when they force an English quota on clubs.

In my opinion England's problem is not that we import loads. It's that we have a completely unnatural one way economy. We're the only major footballing nation in the world who doesn't really have players in other countries.

We only ever import and never really export our own players meaning that we've created a really minimal 'market' for English footballers trying to make it. Spanish footballers play anywhere. They have dozens of leagues to make it in. English ones only play in England. That is a problem....So what happens is that a) most give up and disappear into nothingness or b) they become overvalued when they do actually manage to get in someone's first team cos they're seen as rarities, when they're not really, they're just good players who hang about until a big English club signs for them, instead of actually challenging themselves abroad, and even c) they're all taught and developed in English leagues hence why all the players we produce tend to be quite one dimensional.

If we had English players playing abroad then there would be more of them in general as there would be more opportunities worldwide, and the odds of more talented English players appearing would go up considerably. When there's more of them, the prices would go do. It's pretty simple really....you'd eventually probably see the tide starting to balance out as common sense comes back in and the numbers of English players worldwide increased.... there might even be cases when *shock horror* English players are bought FROM foreign clubs and they're actually more rounded and talented than they were when they left. Mental hey?

And nowadays with the homegrown rule in effect English players become an even bigger commodity they become more expensive than ever.

Take a simple but once quite talented player like David Dunn. He milled around various English clubs with middling success. Now imagine if he'd gone abroad and actually challenged himself. I think he could have actually done pretty well in the Spanish leagues and learnt a few things...instead players like him just choose to drop down levels and eventually they all just fade into lower league nothingness. The game is littered with middling players like that. The whole thing is just unnatural and totally unhealthy to the English game.

...also, there has been years of naff coaching admittedly that hasn't helped youth development.

I really its a cultural problem that will always to an extent effect our national game.

I've been fucking waiting for this and they do not disappoint. I knew it wouldn't be long before they started the 'England Players' crap and I expect their PR dept to go into overdrive on how they are saving the England game with all the youth that they have brought through.

Seeing that he mentioned the actual number of English players in our game then it leads me to believe that this is a rehearsed announcement. Expect many more.

Wonder if he'll be so vocal in his own changing room should Felliani be in the team ahead of Zinedine Cleverley next week?

Funny thing is that all our foreign players can string a more cohesive sentence together in English than that dopey cunt!

When there was a quota on foreign players in euro competitions, the rags moaned like mad that it wasn't fair as Scots and Irish were considered foreign and therefore it was harder for them.

As for this glorious past when most of the league was English players and we therefore won every competition, can anyone remind me when it was, as Wikipedia reckons we've only ever won one trophy so they must have been before I was born.

You make a good point but isn't it due to the money on offer in England compared to abroad?
I mean a top 10 club In England such as Swansea or whoever could probably afford to pay their players more than their equivalent level club in Spain.
And if you're going to play for the same standard of club, you may aswell choose the one which gives you more money.
That's why so many flock to the English leagues imo.
