View from the Away End - Cup Edition

Postby CuteMancs » Thu Jan 26, 2023 7:10 pm

I got a bit bored reading this thread, so I hope these few comments give an idea of what the away fans are thinking. I am looking forward to the game, interested to see what happens before the PL fixture. A win would be a very nice start to the weekend.

COME ON CITY!!!

Referee Paul Tierney
Assistant Referees Constantine Hatzidakis & Neil Davies
Fourth Official Robert Jones
VAR John Brooks
AVAR Harry Lennard

Team Selection

Turner
Tomi Holding Gabriel Tierney
Xhaka Partey
Ødegaard
Saka Eddie Trossard

And the rest…

Play second team, lose, don’t show them anything to prepare for the league game. PL over everything.

Arteta will play the strongest team, with no game until 8 days later.

Think a lot of our starters will play. We're playing at the Etihad and a drubbing could get into our players' heads. Expect the likes of Xhaka and Saka, added with someone like Trossard in between. No Partey please.

I used to criticise Wenger for binning off the cups back in the day so I'm going full double standards here in saying rest a few for this one. Saka, Partey, Eddie and Ode don't need to be playing. Can't be risking anything happening to Eddie with Jesus still out.

We've seen enough FA Cup wins to give us beautiful memories. But, now we've actually got a chance at the trophy that's eluded us for almost 2 decades!! Throw this match, play the under 9's if you must. They won't remember it in a couple of years time anyway.

Title over everything. Unlike Arteta, I don’t believe Saka can play 70 games. You saw United in the last 20 minutes, they were dead on their feet after playing palace mid week.

Not one arsenal fan cares about this cup this year. We got bigger fish to fry. Send out the reserves and see what happens

No silly rotations for a match that can define the pace at which the League game will go at. If we beat City at the Etihad, they will enter the Prem match with a lot of pressure. They're trailing and they know they're beatable. I reckon we should rotate a bit, give minutes to some less-used players, but we shouldn't go and play a relatively weak side for this game. It's City, after all.

Yall are thinking of this all wrong. Full second team, let City come out full strength. Studs up tackles to the side of knees for Haaland, KDB, Rodri, Foden, etc. Sure we’ll end up with 7 red cards, but if we do 2 or 3 ACL’s I’ll consider it a good days work.

Don’t know what people are scared of. This the first time we meet our only real title rival this season, it’s time to put down a marker.

It will be our strongest team and we are going to slap them.

Cheers CM

This for me, remains our best chance of a trophy so I'm in the camp of full strength XI and win the game

And we've seen with Chelsea a couple of years ago how winning against a side sets doubts into the opposition

I hope Arteta's pride overrides his judgement and he fields a full strength side, let's Pep figure them out up close and personal before the PL game.
For me, Arsenal look to pumped up to early, they still have 19 PL games to play i.e. not 5 or 6. Hard to sustain that level of emotion without burn out. Still they are 8 points clear so a cup win is needed to kick start their self doubt.

I wonder if Arteta - the Monkey, will finally pull the cork out of the Arse of the constipated Pig - running up and down the touchline , out of his litlle box ?

With Pep he was a meek little fella.

I cannot see him doing this. There is too much mutual respect. I think we will see us going near to full strength. A win for us further enhances the hold that we have enjoyed over them for the past few years and stands us in good stead for the upcoming PL games with them. It will be pickling Arteta's head as to what he wants to do

5 days since the Wolves game, 9 days until we play Spuds. No reason not to play a full strength team, no matter who we were playing. The fact that it's the only team ahead of us in the PL just reinforces that. We should go all out to batter them and set down a marker and get into their heads for the upcoming PL meetings.

I can see Zinch getting a great reception at the start of the game and then booed by the end. For some reason now he’s left every time I see him I want to punch his face. The guy seems to get involved in everything that’s nothing to do with him. Watching him get out of his subs seat screaming at the officials during one of their matches made me realise the guy thinks he’s something he’s not. Maybe the move to London has blown smoke up his arse. The teeth don’t help either.

100% full strength. No excuses. No debate.
We may not win the league.
We've won our last two games, and given how erratic we've been of late we need to win again to keep momentum going.
Long time to the next game, NO NEED TO REST PLAYERS.
Win and plant the seed of doubt in Arsenals heads, this will be very important against a team not used to challenging for top spot.

I would expect Arteta to go full strength like us he has over a week until his next game and he will not want a spanking at all costs.

Lets hope Pep doesn't try to re-invent the wheel tonight!!

Spot on. Grealish and Mahrez need to start with The Erl of Haaland.

Has Arsenal met a world class No9 this season? None of our rivals has one, should be interesting how they handle Haaland.
No fucking about with passing sideways and backwards, no slow tempo. Full throttle, show them no respect.

Shame because I loved the little guy. Not sure why he seems to have become this “look at me” type of player screaming at officials because arsenal don’t get their way. It seems to have happened to Arteta as well to be fair. He’s been erratic on the touchline to say the least!

Arguably Kane is world class (on a crap team).
IMO Gabriel and White are suspect and I think they will be targeted by us tonight.
Tonight I think we will be able to expose their back four and win the game.

In the longer term, Arsenal's squad does not have quality backup for their key players.
They need to avoid injuries to those key players to win the PL.

He should get the respect he deserves up to kick off and it stop at that point. I think Zinch has gotten carried away with the media winners mentality that he brought from us. Play Mahrez and also have Haaland pin him on crosses and corners

Arteta has always been like that. Does anyone remember him haranguing the ref to get Dedryck Boyata sent off? I thought he was a twat.

Stinks of “what can we beat City with to stop them catching Arsenal” from the media and they’ve made it so obvious by literally picking the players that have struggled to get in the team since the WC. They’re so brain dead.

It also backs up J68s earlier post. 3 of the 5 who were mentioned in another 'article'
Problem with this is and always has been, that they will now shit-stirit more. Mind, may be a moot point seeing as the windows closes next week and i cannot see us allowing a mass exodus before then
