I reckon he was close to being named captain for tonight. I love all our Argies, including Big Willy.

Might be akin to heresy to think or say this, but I reckon the DeMichelis-Mangala combination is well worth persevering with, even when Kompany is back to full fitness.

Very strong argument for it. But he is 33 and maybe we should keep him fresh for when we really need him, like tonight.

The two most ridiculed players of the last 12 months in the press have a really good night in Rome and the press say fuck all. Both were very good tonight, Martin in particular.

Yes he did.
Not only did he marshal the whole defence, but he saved a goal bound shot when hart was beaten.
Watched him having serious words with mangler before kick off too. Clearly giving him instructions as to how he wanted him to partner up.
Excellent defender that's come on leaps and bounds

You could see his 60 games CL experience tonight, and I'm sure his team mates felt it too.
I wish he'd grow his hair long again though.

Agreed mate. Even with the long hair thing. 'He swings his ponytail from left to right, Demichelis, Demichelis'

I always feel a lot more confident when he's in the side at the moment than when he isn't. What an intelligent player.

What a turnaround. And we'll have him for another 7 years thanks to the new academy.

He's actually looking better for City now than he did for Malaga & previously, imo.
He was something of a joke/nightmare figure for Argentina in the past, but now is welcome back in their squad, & deservedly so.
We really ought to consider keeping him on, because the Mangler has a lot of learning to do, still, & the rest are kids.

He is indeed turning into a real rock
Seems there is a real lesson to be learned here for central defenders from overseas, as we haven't really had that many foreign players in the CB position, and the ones we have had we seem to have given up on fairly early on.
Savic - yes he was shocking, but young and inexperienced)
Nastasic - ditto above, but does show good potential)
Boateng - didn't really get a chance, we can be critical of him now but he plays every week for the best team in Europe
Kompany - he learned the pace of the PL from central midfield and was an immediate upgrade on what we had
Distin - was already experienced in premier league when we signed him
Problem is, in both the league and champions league, you really can't afford to give them a free pass for howlers due to the stakes. Suppose it proves that trick really is to change them as infrequently as possible as the rags have shown as you cant really afford for a new centre half to have a shit half season in our position

If it was where Hart went for the corner and cocked it up and Demichelis stood in front of the goal and had the ball hit his chest? Pretty sure that was goalbound.

Such a shame Distin left when he did. I'd love to have seen how him and Kompany would've shaped up.
He left to win things, backfired a little bit that one.
