At 3.10 or even 3.15 there were still big queues outside the SS and that's despite many many complaints to " crowd control " people and others but it took yonks before one or two other turnstiles were made usable for the crowds. Twas an absolute joke and I was surprised there were not some real disturbances.

This was the problem.
A City spokesman said: “A turnstile block temporarily lost power, which meant some supporters were redirected to an alternative entrance.

That's bollocks what the City person has said!
It's 100% because they've started patting every single fan down and using a metal detector on them!
People are being stopped with bottles of coke and told they're not allowed to take them in so people are understandably holding up queues whilst they neck a full bottle of coke.
I understand increasing security levels with everything that's going on in the world but ffs you've got absolute bellend security people (who are most likely rag fans) just taking the piss with it!

Got to the East Stand at ten minutes before ko and there were no queues at all. Why couldn't the entrances near to the South side be used just to get people in?
What was very evident was a table on the spiral nearest the South Stand was dozens of empty half empty and full coke bottles on the table. Airports do this but how can a bomb be made from liquid in a clear bottle, sometimes with an unbroken seal on the cap?

I go in through entrance M1 in the South Stand. At 3.05 they opened the gates and let us in without having to use the season ticket for access. Anyone could have gone in but that helped speed things up massively.

It was live on NBC, because I watched it on there.
Probably live in a few other countries too.

I watched it live on Dutch telly and never noticed. The commentators didn't pick up on it either.

They could glaze the bottle so on first glance it looked 'coke' colour. Bearing in mind it's very possible to have minimum wage hired help providing 'security'.
One bottle could do a lot of damage in a packed stadium.

When we first moved to the stadium they stopped you taking a bottle in with a cap on it - we asked why and we got told that a bottle is heavier with liquid in when thrown...
I still assumed they were doing that. To be honest I'm fuming I can't sneak cans of beer in anymore but I'd rather not get blown the fuck up.

I've been worried about stadiums in England for a few years - given that football is our national game.

I don't think it's anything to do with security, they just want to sell you their own products.

tbh I would not be surprised if this is the real reason but they know truth would cause an outrage so they use security as an excuse. money talks etc

I got there about 2.45pm and the queue was huge with chants of "what the f**k is going on". It was chaotic. The turnstiles where evidently broken as there was still no one being let in. Then as someone in this thread has said, they just opened the doors and let everyone in without any tickets being checked. It was all about to kick off so they really didn't have much option. Seems there is no plan b when the technology goes down which is a bit concerning.
