Makes Stones deal much more likely. Couldn't see us paying big money for two centre backs.

Guess that must be it, and that we are going to perhaps buy someone else we are overlooking or are still in for that we've been linked to.

Did we actually want him or was it all paper talk?

We certainly did, I'd think. Rumours been flying for months. We reportedly offered to give him the cash to pay his release clause. He just decided he wanted to stay for whatever reason.

All in for Stones now I gather. That's sure going to keep his price more reasonable...

The last I heard was that he agreed to join us, and then was to sit with the Athletic Bilbao management for a last chance to hear what they had to say. Clearly it worked.

I'd be thinking if it was his choice of us or Bilbao that it'd be an easy decision.

Disappointed with this. I'd have preferred him over Stones. Maybe though, we are underestimating our DoF. Perhaps him and Pep have something up their sleeve that we weren't expecting

For Laporte to stay where he is, they would've had to at least match our wages and sign on fee. No way would they come half way near that.

I am glad.

I never heard that Manchester City will have to fight ... for Laporte. This saids a lot about him. It looked like we were the only ones interested to sign him up. Let him stay there.

Maybe we lost interest when we realised he had recovered from injury. I suspect we were trying to negotiate his price down but couldn't agree. I'm not disappointed but I'm not keen on Stones either.

That or he did a 'Kaka'. And if he did, then he made the right decision, as he wouldn't have been right for us if he didn't think he was

Bilbao are a very sharp club. Players leaving in the past few years Llorente was one find the small print should have been read. I would not be surprised to see him leave to PSG,

Maybe there is weight to the rumour he wants Boateng back, and Hummels now at Bayern....well maybe.

Speaking about PSG, Marquinhos looks good.

Too bad Silva is too old, the best defender in Europe.
