And perhaps the most glaring omission..... Andy Cole.

If we're going to play that midfield I would be tempted to drop Robinho and put Kanchelskis in, who was far more devastating in my opinion and Robinho never really peaked did he.
I'd probably go for
P Schmeichel (sad to say but one of the best ever)
Maicon (wing back)
Demichelis
Hendry (never watched Van Buyten much once he left)
Pearce (wing back as in Italia 90)
Lampard
Vieira (he would have to sit in as the holding player here)
Bernabia
Weah
Cole
Kanchelskis
Cole would spearhead the attack flanked by the other two.
Let's see if Pellegrini could fuck that up.

Good shout. Class player, when fit. Don't know if he would be good enough for 1st eleven slot but would defo be on the bench.

If the bench held 20 people perhaps

No mention of David Seaman yet. Up there with Schmeichel for goalie. No way Colin Hendry was better than van Buyten IMO. Could we include Paul Lake in this, in that we arguably didn't see the full potential we should've done because of injury?

Every game that team played in would be 5-4!!!

Haha. Yeah, ok. I wasn't going for a first 11 player, was just going for the other half of the thread and naming a player who'd left before their prime.

Just throwing this one in here for central midfield; Steve McMahon.
Had a great 3 years for the red scouse but rapidly declined as soon as he started wearing our colours. If I remember rightly it was a toss-up between signing him or Michael Thomas from the Arse.
I know who my choice in hindsight would have been!

there must be some truth, then!
