Right, this summer, we'll be represented in:
Slovakia
Netherlands
Argentina
Brazil
England
Ivory Coast
Paraguay
Possibly cheating France, and anyone else we sign someone from in January.
I don't think there's ever been a World Cup winner at the club before (at the time they've won the medal). Who thinks it will happen this summer?

Also on this subject, I think Ashton Under Lyne is the only town in the world to produce World Cup winners for different countries- Geoff Hurst & Simone Perrotta.

If you add in the Germans (on the basis that we might well bag this Boateng lad) and maybe by summer the dream signing of someone like Silva, Villa, Torres from Spain then I'd say it is almost certain that we will have a World Cup winner at City.
I can see quite a few of our squad going quite far in the tournament though.....exciting times

it's a tough one.
the real candidates from that list are England, Netherlands, Brazil, Argentina and Ivory Coast.
I personally reckon England will snatch a glorious defeat from the jaws of victory in the semis. The Dutch have all the ability but their record at tourneys is pretty poor for the calibre of players they have. I'd predict a similar fate to that of old Albion.
As long as the Argies have Maradona in charge i can't see them getting anywhere near the prize, which is a bit of a shame as they have some wonderful players.
So, it comes down to Brazil - who are always going to be strong in the latter stages, and the Ivorians. I would love seeing Cote D'Ivorie win the tourney (assuming that England are not contesting the final), but i can't see them coming out on top against the very best.
so it looks to me like little Robson is our best hope.

I think it will be Robson.
Does anybody know that if we do get a player who is on a winning team will we be able to display the WC in our trophy cabinet?

You can add France to that now probably.
Not that they'll win it

Argentina is funny. They'd be my favourites for the WC if they didn't have Maradona in charge. Right now, they can consider themselves lucky if they get past group stages.
Brazil, I don't know. I thought I would never say this about Brazil side but that midfield looks weak if you take Kaka out. I'm sure they will be there and there abouts.
Netherlands have very very weak back line. They will be shifting goals against big countries.
England. Good squad on paper but very unbalanced. Lack of truly world class goal getter and especially goalkeeper will be a problem. If they can find two "one competition wonders" (Defoe? Owen back in full flow? James all of the sudden stopped making howlers?), they'd have chance to go all the way. In the same time, there's also possibility of HUGE failure.
Ivory Coast are super interesting for me. If they can keep their starting 11 fit, they have actually strongest squad to ever come from Africa imo.
Slovakia and Paraguay are there to make up the numbers.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

They were already there, but it depends on Vieira's performances for us and injury record as to whether he's selected.

Only if we sign Boateng. Because Germany will win it. :)
And yes I am biased (German).

Robi is our best shot imo, England will unfortunately fall at the quarters or at best semi's.
Brazil or Spain to win it for me and reckon Argentina could do well if Carlos, Messi and Arguero are in form despite of that fat clown in charge.

Hope not. Almost without an exception World Cup winners have shit following club season. Winning World Cup can be emotionally draining and you can easily lose your hunger for a while.

We got a World Player of the Year in George Weah after he won the accolade...
Doesn't count for me.

Out of those I'd say Brazil have the best chance, though I think Spain will win it.

For England, having now seen about 5/6 world cups, my expectations will be quarter final loss.
No doubt we will lose due to some handball goal or dodgey penner.
