The BBC don't have adverts on their website, so number of clicks are irrelevant. They have the broadcast rights to the African Nations so assume it is linked to that deal.

Never realised that, but suppose it makes sense as those outside the UK don't need to pay the TV licence - every day is a school day!

Yes, it's horrible - sometimes they try to make you watch a 45 second advert in order to be able to watch a 20 second news clip.
