from the OS

EDS defender Angelino has signed for New York City FC on loan until the end of the 2015 Major League Soccer season.

He joins Shay Facey as the second City youngster to be given the chance to continue his development with the club’s sister side in the USA.

Angelino will be eligible for selection following the opening of the MLS transfer window on July 8, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and his P1 Visa.

“I’m very happy for the opportunity that Manchester City and New York City FC have given me. To be able to play in New York is a great opportunity for me and I am eager to get started. I can’t wait to get to New York and join my new teammates,” the defender declared.

“I know Shay Facey is doing really well for the team and loving the experience. The atmosphere at Yankee Stadium seems amazing so I’m really looking forward to playing in front of our supporters.

“Being able to train and play in a professional league like MLS, and learn from Coach Kreis will help me develop further as a young player. I’m determined to make the

NYCFC Head Coach Jason Kreis couldn't hide his delight with this new acquisition: “Angelino is a talented young player that I became very familiar with when I spent my five months over in Manchester.

"Immediately, he was somebody that I liked. I was impressed with his character, the way he trained and the effort he gave to the team on the pitch. I couldn’t be more pleased that we’ve been able to bring him into this squad.

“Angelino is very hungry to move forward in his career and has a fighting mentality that you want to see in a young professional.

"Defensively he’s very good in 1-v-1 battles but is also effective in getting forward and serving good balls into the box.”

The 18-year-old left back joined City from Deportivo La Coruna, signing as a scholar in July 2013 and made his u21 debut before his 17th birthday.

An exciting, attacking left back, Angelino was promoted to the EDS a year early, and his pace and attacking prowess ensured he was one of the first names on Patrick Vieira’s teamsheet in domestic and European competition.

Nominated for the 2014/15 LG EDS Player of the Year award, the Spanish youth international helped his side win the inaugural International Premier League Cup, and was rewarded for his rapid development with a place on the subs bench for City’s Premier League clash with Sunderland last December.

He is likely to provide competition for Jeb Brovsky and Chris Wingert for the left-back slot at Yankee Stadium.

New York City FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna said: “Angelino’s development in the last 18 months in Manchester has been tremendous.

“He has excellent technical qualities on the ball and plays with a competitive spirit that will fit in nicely to the team.

“He is in the City Football Group family and we’ll do everything we can to make sure he settles in, develops as a player and has a great experience with New York City FC.”

Now on NYCFC Website

NEW YORK | New York City FC is pleased to announce the acquisition of defender Jose Angel Tasende on loan for the remainder of the 2015 Major League Soccer season.

Tasende, known as Angelino, is a member of the Manchester City FC Elite Development Squad. He will be eligible for selection following the opening of the MLS transfer window on July 8, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and his P1 Visa.

The 18-year-old Spanish youth international signed with Manchester City’s youth ranks as a first-year scholar in July 2013 and was a regular for the U-18s during the 2012-13 campaign. The left back made his EDS (U-21) debut prior to his 17th birthday and joins New York City FC after a very successful 2014-15 campaign.

“I’m very happy for the opportunity that Manchester City and New York City FC have given me. To be able to play in New York is a great opportunity for me and I am eager to get started. I can’t wait to get to New York and join my new teammates,” Angelino said.

I’m determined to make the most of my opportunity and give everything I can to help the team in our first season.”

“Angelino is a talented young player that I became very familiar with when I spent my five months over in Manchester,” New York City FC head coach Jason Kreis said. “Immediately, he was somebody that I liked. I was impressed with his character, the way he trained and the effort he gave to the team on the pitch. I couldn’t be more pleased that we’ve been able to bring him into this squad.

“Angelino is very hungry to move forward in his career and has a fighting mentality that you want to see in a young professional. For a team that wants to play the way we do, he has all the attributes you’d want to see in an outside back. Defensively he’s very good in 1-v-1 battles but is also effective in getting forward and serving good balls into the box.”

Angelino, who chose Manchester City over Real Madrid and Barcelona, showcased his offensive prowess by scoring a hat trick for the EDS in a 4-2 win over Leicester City on April 7.

“Angelino’s development in the last 18 months in Manchester has been tremendous,” New York City FC Sporting Director Claudio Reyna said. “He has excellent technical qualities on the ball and plays with a competitive spirit that will fit in nicely to the team.

“He is in the City Football Group family and we’ll do everything we can to make sure he settles in, develops as a player and has a great experience with New York City FC.”

Excellent move for Angelino. Will do him the world of good. Could do with a touch of growth hormone otherwise he looks a terrific prospect. Wonder what the Club has in mind for Maffeo.

why is it an "excellent move"? just because it's an alleged 'holistic' one?

i think it's about the equivalent of moving to fucking League 1 and not a great side in League 1 either. Who would get a boner and spank it to that news? A: No fucking body.

Interesting move and hope he gets game time and benefits from the experience - I'm sure he will.

Does this mean kolarov and clichy are staying? Can't imagine we would take risk of being left short through injury or suspension, though assume we would have right to call angelino back if need be.

I think NYFC is a step up for Angelino at least in terms of physicality. It's only for a few months and he clearly seems up for it. The alternative was staying at the same level for another year. Excellent move.

He has looked impressive whenever he plays. His season was disrupted slightly when he flew back to England for personal reasons, but he is certainly first choice along with Hernandez at the back now.

MLS is much more physical than it is technical. Coming in as a youngster and facing some experienced internationals will only benefit him.

Even just playing against adult professionals will do him good.

Not watched him yet myself but after a red card moment, doing very well according to reports.

Facey imo is a good solid defender, just not quite big or quick enough to be a cb here. A 'nearly' player imo but certainly no mug.

As the bottle neck starts to happen at the CFA, I can see a large amount of these "Loans" going ahead. Considering the "Holistic Approach" the step up as PV stated recently to the kids playing against "Men or Man Football" in Massive.

So it's all part of these kids playing with "City" (CFA) philosophy, stepping up the physicality and development in their football educational careers!

Come to think of it, not sure who steps in at left-back now for the EDS initially. Maybe Vasi?

I don't like the idea that he will challenge the existing left backs there. Get him playing straightaway.

He really needs to play out there and (almost) be first choice. Not only will it benefit NYCFC team but the young lad and eventually MCFC
