We must play this pairing for the forseeable, to give us back our solidity. This will mean we'll will start to play like last year, with more freedom in the opposition half, as we know ( TRUST ) in the defence.
Hope Mangala was watching as he could pick up a few pointers of what Pellegrini wants from his defence, and how to execute it. He is still the long term future of the defence for me, but we need to just steady the ship at the moment, and for me, that is having Vinnie and MDM at the heart of defence. Preferably with a pn form Fernandinho in front of them.

MDM definitely a really good organiser and you get the impression he calms Vinnie down a bit.

It's absolutely true that they are the best partnership, but not for the right reasons imo. They know Pellegrini's drill better than Managala does, so hold the offside line better etc, but as soon as pressure comes, Vinny in particular is losing concentration & charging about like a headless chicken, in a state of utter panic.
The composure of the Kompany Lescott partnership, where one would go for the ball & the other try to cover for him, has largely disappeared, but these do both manage to get in some last ditch tackles, & have to.
But the biggest difference between both & Mangala was sheer luck. MDM was skinned by the geriatric, useless RVP (the only thing he did in 90 mins) when it seemed the player had nowhere to go. Somehow Demi managed to allow him into our box, exactly as he did Soldado for the pen. Absolutely shocking defending both times. Not to mention him passing straight to the rags when they were all swarming in our half.
Also Vinny being nutmegged by that fat fucking sloth was like watching Gerry fucking Taggart at his worst. Pathetic (as well as Zabba falling for his great big dummy prior to that; what the fuck!!??). And the way Vinny let Boghead get away from him to get in a free header, was also just piss poor defending.
The pair of them were fucking lucky to get away with some real shite vs the rags, & the captain's lack of composure & organisation was the main reason Utd got a sniff in the game; the rest are folowing his lead. The cbs are having to make last ditch heroics because of their own lack of composure causing all manner of shit in the first place.
It's no wonder Managala is struggling when the best cb in the world is hopping around like a cat on a hot tin roof as soon as we come under any threat. If he had the opportunity to play next to the Vincent from 3 years ago, it would be a lot easier for him to find his feet.
At the moment, it's better he is kept out of it whilst they all calm the fuck down.

It looks as though you've been eating your vinegar sandwiches again Ted and yet, after all you say and how patently "lucky" we were, we still managed to keep a clean sheet which will do a lot of good for the team, psychologically speaking.
On the other hand, if we were banging in more goals, the pressure and scrutiny being directed against our defenders would be that much less, which would also augur well for our prospects of achieving more clean sheets.
IMHO, the main concern and problem area which needs to be worked on, at the moment, is the attacking side of our game.

It's not vs the rags Vinny has been like that, it's vs plenty of teams especially in the champions league.
We were not lucky to beat the rags, we were unlucky not to beat them 10- 1. The '1' would have been down to the utter shite defending I have highlighted.
Are you denying that those incidents I mentioned took place or do you think that the defending in those instances was at the standard it should be ?

Mangala's a really good player struggling with a new League. MDM was shit in the first half of last season so we need to be patient with Mangala. He has pace, strength and an excellent jump on him. He'll be fine.

Less of an aging porn star... I actually like the way he plays with a smile on his face. He's clearly at the wrong end of his career but I think for now he's using his experience well to settle the team down.
