Definitely impressive. With Fernando and Fernandinho in front of him and Vinnie we might even have the makings of a good team.

Nah, Liverpool will still be more entertaining; Chelsea unbeatable and the rags are back as a dominant force. But we might scrape 7th

I have got absolutely no idea, mate. That is why I am cautious.
The case for the defence presents Exhibit A, the debut of one Steve McManaman. ;-)

Garcia, savic, the list probably doesn't end there.

It was a very impressive debut but I admit I find it hard to get carried away just yet.
If he had been shit, I would be saying "give him time, let's see how he is in six months" etc.

I'm confident, simply because of te range he showed. Garcia looked good because he played stoke and scored. This was a slightly firmer test and he showed pace, power, touch and anticipation. Not much more I look for in a centre half. Good signs
Tracking back is overrated.

Looks just the job on that showing. An absolute beast.
However it is one game, Mcmanaman had a good debut, so lets see how he does over the next 15-20 games to form a proper opinion.

But in this case he is someone we have been tracking over two transfer windows rather than one of the manager's scouse buddies :-)

certainly mangala was more highly rated coming here than savic or garcia.
we need to see more games, surely, but our scouting team has become world class since the spaniards arrived, and we have been looking at him for a while now.

A good leap, tall, strong, agile and fast. He looks a very good foil for Vinnie. He looked comfortable with the ball at his feet too.
Good early signs.

Apart from Micah when he was about 17, we haven't had serious pace at the back since Keith Curle's hamstrings went.
We have got by without it in recent years, but the difference it makes is incredible. Distin & Dunney were pretty sharp & we often saw how that got us out of trouble, even though both used to get bitched by mid table strikers from time to time.Mangala is well quicker than those two & a much better footballer than them (or Curlie).
Looing at Benatia the other night, it would have been such a 2nd best if we'd ended up with him. No comparison. I still expect there will be fuckups here & there, but seeing him for 90 mins in the flesh is enough for me; we have got the real deal.
I have been waiting for us to find this kind of centre back at City for decades.

He has got great pace but he's also really strong in the tackle and great in the air. At 23 he's got years ahead of him. You can see why we paid so much for him and why we went to such lengths to get through the ballsaching third party issues. From his point of view he will surely be far more likely to bust into the french team now he's playing for a top european club.
