Fabregas

Interesting that comment on the radio tonight (think it was Chris Waddle) is that Fabregas is not the player who left Arsenal and if can't get into a Barca team ahead of Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro and Sanchez then his star isn't really shining high - plus Wenger had first refusal but presumably thought £30m was too much for a player who'd struggle to get in ahead of the likes of Ramsey, Ozil, Arteta et al

In Arsenal's position it'd be hard to justify - stocked (including promising youth players) in midfield and 30m would be much of their budget. Pretty much every other position would be a higher priority for them.

It allows Jose to play 1 forward and fabregas and /or hazard in behind

Perfect signing for the slightly cagey, pack the midfield system he seems to prefer

Mata was better suited for that role (and I think Fabregas functions best from a deep lying role). He'd make more sense as a replacement for Luiz, but not much more.

Chris Waddle is a prick then if that's his opinion.

He played 96 games in 3 seasons, was picked for most of the games he was fit for, and most of those appearances were from the start, not bit part appearances from the bench

In those 96 games, he scored 30 and assisted 30, and was in barcelonas top 5 for appearances in each of his 3 seasons, actually playing more, than Xavi and Iniesta in all of the last three seasons, and scoring and assisting more than both put together in the same time period.

He had a massive contribution and Chris waddle as usual doesn't have a fucking clue what he's on about

He is a class act, only question remains who he has pissed off at Barca for them to let him go

More or less this.

He's gone because they don't actually have that many saleable assets, they're skint and they're on a bit of a downward slope. Nothing personal, I'd bet, but he certainly wasn't surplus to requirements in playing terms.

This shit all stems from the lazy journalism last year where people just started to assume that fabregas wasn't effective just because there were rumors of barca being prepared to let him go.

Now waddle has said it, it will become fact amongst those who take these talking head cunts' word as gospel, when nothing could be further from the truth - he was barcelonas 2nd most influential player in all of his seasons there - no mean feat.

You may well be right, but this is what Barcelona said about him on their website today (amongst other things). Not very classy on their part, to be honest, but pretty specific:

Classy!

To be fair to them though, they have to justify it to the fans, and perhaps the sports scientists have a hand in this, maybe one of the first instances where a club publicly gives its reasons for a sale based on science

I think they did it because he's one of their 'own'. Still, it doesn't come across very well on their part.

Wasn't it Fabregas who after one of City Barca games went off on camera giving a mouthful to Mourinho because he had things to say about Barca not being the same, much weaker than before etc etc in the build up and then right after the final whistle someone shoved a mic in front of Fabregas who went on and on about 'some people' say this and say that and they should 'shut up' ...

Mourinho with his ego doesn't look like the guy to have forgotten that so soon ... has he just spent Chelsea money to get Fabregas in so he can stuff him some ... here's a conspiracy theory ... he'll be a bench warmer soon, because Chelsea already have too many who can play in that midfield in various different variations etc. and Maureen doesn't forget or forgive that easy.

I can apreciate the stats re Fabregas for Barca, but imo he always looked as if he was in the way, Barca looked better as a unit, without him. Same goes for Sanches.

Barca score loads of goals. Imo, Fabregas was not the same player at Barca as he was at Arsenal whatever the stats say.

I don't know if he can be again, & wouldn't bet for or against it, but what I DO know is that Mourinho is moving into different territory with this squad. If he can pull it off then fair play to him. But this signing is more like a continuation of the signings Chelsea made before Mourinho arrived, & makes me wonder if he had any say in it.

Surely it would be better to let go of Xavi or Sanchez or someone else who's either much older or not a regular starter for the team? I do think they have a lot they can sell and Xavi could rack in quite some cash if they wanted to pursue that route.

Fabregas isn't as good as everyone cracks him up to be. He's an excellent player on his day, but not the type of player you want to rely on when push comes to shove, as the stats Barca released purportedly show. As for the classy part, perhaps Fabregas could've just told Spanish newspapers that he wasn't going to Barca until the summer he finally went, that would have made life easier for the Arsenal fans.

For what it's worth though, if there's any manager that could make a winner out of Fabregas it's Mourinho. I've got a bad feeling about this. Hope I'm wrong.

I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

He was being picked ahead of Iniesta, Martino gone, Fabregas ! gone, Enrique will have Barca flying next season, you are right his 3 or 4 touches were all designed to get Messi in. Barca fans turned on him in the end, when that happens your finished. He is a cunt and he now plays for a cunt

If I remember correctly you are a Barca fan as well right? In your opinion, what's Fabregas status been amongst the fans during his time at Barca? You say they turned on him in the end, why did they?
