It was in vogue because it was 100% true, he was basically a liability & costing us goals or having lucky escapes every single week.

He has been very good recently but he even admits himself that he was struggling like fuck & mentions his fuck up v Barca as being the turning point. So give him a ring & tell him his views on himself are embarrassing.

This is what I don't get. Plenty of people are now trying to say that anyone criticising Demichelis early on was wrong. That's just not true! He was truly awful for a long time and we were a poorer side for playing him.

But...even as someone who gave him his fair share of criticism, I can acknowledge his significant improvement and the important role he played for us at the end of the season.

He seems to have adjusted to the Premier League and although I hope we'll bring in a top class centre-back this summer to partner Vinny, having him as 1 of 4 centre backs is no bad thing.

I still think letting Lescott go is a mistake. From his interviews, he still seems to love being at the club and I think he could be persuaded to stay if we offered him a deal. It would also help from a homegrown quota perspective too. Vinny, 1 new CB, Demichelis and Lescott as our 4 centre-backs would give us strength and experience. Obviously that includes us dumping Nastasic somewhere...

Yes, he was disappointed in himself. He's a humble guy with high standards. There were still aspects of his game that were well ahead of anything Lescott could do; in particular his passing and his willingness to quickly switch play into attack mode. Some could see this, including - crucially - Pellegrini.

In recent months he's been a revelation. Most people have recognised that. He's won accolade after accolade on City forums. Over the whole season he's filled a glaring gap, adjusted to a new league and made a big contribution to winning the title. In the meantime Lescott couldn't get a look-in. He is being released because he doesn't fit.

You've given him credit. If others can't bring themselves to do so, that is churlish. And to still maintain Lescott is better, well.....

His passing wasn't good, it was shit. It isn't 'good' to knock the ball around a bit & then pass it to the opposition bloke to run past you. That was happening in pretty much every game, not one or two, & when Lescott came into the side, he was defending AND passing better than Demichelis & should have been playing.

Lescott was the better option, not just in comparison to Demichelis, but in comparison to Nastasic too & had he played every game it is unlikely we would have lost any more games at the death than we did, & very unlikely we would have lost to Villa away, Chelsea away, Sunderland away which were all down to examples of shocking defending by his replacements.

Demichelis had a good finish to the season, but by no means perfect. He was part of a defence which let in 3 at Anfield & two at Goodison, plus needing Joe Hart to pull off a great save when Naysmith ran straight through a big hole in the middle of our defence.

Lukaku scored with a free header in a big hole in the middle of our defence. Sterling ran into a big hole in the middle of our defence.

Demichelis passed the ball around nicely & was solid at the end of the season, but our defence was still not better than it was when Vinny & Lescott were a partnership. They are by far the best we have had.

Lescott is definitely leaving. The club aren't going to pay his wages to a third or fourth choice striker. I would have given him another year but he's leaving and that's that. Time to move on. In fairness Ted you described one of MDM's performances as magnificent apart from one bad pass. He rallied the side brilliantly against Hull was it when Vinny got sent off early doors. We definitely need a replacement for Lescott and Nastasic frankly worries me.

That's because I'm being honest about it, as i am about Lescott. I described Demichelis end to the season as the best cb in the Prem. I also think that Lescott was better than him for most of the season & doubt it would have made any difference to the outcome had he played instead of Demichelis at the end.

If Lescott had played in the first 75% of the season, I think we would have won the league earlier. We got away with the Demi/Nastasic inspired calamities due to Gerrard.

Demichelis now says he wasn't even fit.

Some will choose to judge Lescott's season on an error at the Camp Nou after being thrown in there rusty as fuck, whilst airbrushing out all the errors made by Demichelis most of the season.

That is the way JL has been treated since the first day he came to the club. I recon he's one of the best cbs I've ever seen playing for City & now he's gone, should become a club legend alongside those of the past.

Latest from his agent says the deal is 99.9% done and that Zuculini is expected to be sent out on loan by City.

Maybe Zucillini is to take over the Guidetti role of a supposedly rated overseas player, perennially on loan or Injured, who never actually plays for us?

Bojinov patented this position, and Guidetti took it up a notch.

Hughes looked very mature last night that loan has brought him on, I would like to see Shaw brought in, Maybe add Caulker with a top class centre back. Suarez like Bellamy will grow on me.

what is embarrassing is how quickly lescott has been discarded because demi looks like he can pass the ball better.

If lescott got the games nasti and demi got both last and this season, we would have had fewer goals conceded. I've seen nothing off demi that showed he made goals happen either.

demi might have had a good run in the last 10 PL games, but alot of them games were against lesser PL teams, against top teams he was a liability.

the reaction to my suggestion that lescott is the better defender pretty much sums up people on this board regarding him.
Still here.

Benatia is best option now in these European leagues that we can buy, i m sure of that.
