This is exactly what UEFA want us to do... keep the uncertainty going right through the summer, so that any good players thinking of joining us will steer clear, through fear about not being able to play in the CL, and even our existing stars, particularly Sergio, will start asking their agents what other options are on the horizon.
One person here said '21 players in the Champions League? No bother'. But 8 of those have to be 'locally trained', and 4 of the 'locally trained' have to be club trained. So basically, a squad of thirteen players who are any good, and with our injury record this season, that would be absolutely useless.
I'm trying to find the article now, but one piece I saw listed the players we would have to leave out of our CL squad - Kolarov, Garcia, Jovetic. For all the people criticising Garcia, I'd rather have him in there defending a lead that Rodwell. And Jovetic is the nearest thing we've got to Aguero. Aguero will almost certainly be injured for half the season, so our striking options would be limited to Dzeko and Negredo. Jovetic would be pretty pissed off and possibly leave... I'd be really sad about that, as I don't have high hopes for Aguero's long term future here (both in terms of injuries and these constant links with Spanish sides) and I think Jovetic will turn out to be a special player.
Honestly, I think we are fucked. Once they jemmy us out of that Champions League, it's gonna be virtualy impossible to get back in, and we won't see players the like of Silva and Yaya want to come to us in the next generation. We'll be a selling club again, like Everton, like Spurs, like Southampton.
Like the other guy said, the Big Red Teams have always got their 20-team no relegation breakway to fall back on as the nuclear option. 21st Century football at the top level is about Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool, and if you don't support one of those fuckers, the powers that be don't give a toss about you. They just want the expensive TV subscriptions of their plastic fans to watch their endless 'titanic struggles' with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. This is modern football. Bollocks to it. Let's just win this league and shove it up their arses one more time. Beyond that though, I'm very pessimistic.
Jesus Christ.
Point 1: It hasn't been confirmed that City have been fined ANYTHING yet, only rumours that PSG have been fined & that people expect, for some reason, that we will get a similar set of sanctions. Nothing has been confirmed or denied.
Point 2: The fine if it does exist, is payable over 3 years, & possibly can be paid from outside the club's books, ie costs us NOTHING.
Point 3: We have failed ffp on a THREE YEAR accounting system, where we lost something like 160 million quid. Our next set of accounts, according to Soriano, show us turning over in excess of FOUR HUNDRED MILLION POUNDS. That is MORE than Arsenal & Chelsea & 4 mil away from Bayern Munich, the next ffp accounting period we are one of the richest teams in Europe.
Point 4: We are just embarking on other ventures in places like USA which are absolutely certain to take that revenue up significantly in the coming years.
Point 5: We have not even built the Etihad Campus yet & realised the possibilities there, nor started to bring through any of the scores of potential young players we have at the club going down to U12 level. Some will play in our first team.
Point 6: There is a great big collar site around the Stadium which is yet to even begin development which will again be a huge money earner for the club.
Point 7: If we are restricted in our squad for a season, what fucking difference does it make ? We have only got out of the group once since we started in the CL & finished bottom under Mancini last year. A season of not getting out of the group will ruin us if it was to happen ? Nonsense.
Point 8: Our Champions League group may be easier next season as we are in a different pot, which may compensate for point 7.
Point 9: We are on the verge of potential title win, with a side which has rarely had its best 11 on the pitch all season. Not winning the Champions League has had not even the slightest effect on that. Nor would it ever.
Point 10: We will be at the top of this tree in a few years, not scrabbling to climb up the branches & we will be the team in the Premier League that the tv people & sponsors want to see. They are trying to slow us down so that they can stay with us; they know they have got no chance of stopping us. Even if they banned us for a season it would make no difference, just a brief postponement.
We are here to stay, whatever they try to do.
