On reflection and the fact I forgot about this discussion, I don't think Alan Shearer has any concept of a 3-5-2 transition. They sent 7 players forward and Huddlestone acts as a sweeper to give protection against the counter. Do you think when he played they just said "Alan, goal, ball"? Because basic tactics seem beyond him.
It was pretty obvious that it was part of a plan by Bruce & Huddlestone was actually trying to put it into practice.
When you consider that Shearer was once, briefly, a manager, it's a bit worrying really. Amazingly, he managed to get 5 points out of 24 available.
