The nonsense in response to my OP is breathtaking. A thug threateaned to batter me and apparently:-

- I must have deserved it? Lots of amateur Sherlock Holmes providing this insight without any evidence - thanks for that.
- I deserved it anyway for being a "southerner" (which isn't true - b&b Manc) - which is unbelievable.
- Being criticised for writing to the club - so I should have risked my career and a criminal record by fighting with this guy? Perhaps I was acting like a grown up?
- Being criticised for asking the guy why he was having a go at me and others saying I must have said something to rile him. Guess what I hadn't a clue and wasn't going to shut up just because some thug "asked" me to.

I've had a couple of messages of support which I'm grateful for (including a guy who saw it close up and was gobsmacked at the behaviour of the guy swinging at me attempting to hit me) but I find the general gist of the responses depressing and a sad reflection on this board.

I guess I'll take my opinions elsewhere in future if this is the standard of support here for a lifelong passionate blue.

You say that this is a forum where opinions can be aired, and quite rightly so, but are flouncing out because we didn't all offer our support. Hmmm

If it's an unprovoked attack, then nobody would condone that, but the way you described it sounds like many incidents that happen occasionally at the match. But your desire to stop this guy watching City is a cunt's trick. What if it worked out this other bloke had also complained and you were banned from going to the game? You wouldn't be so thrilled then. Stop being a sneaky snitch and simply write it off as "just one of them"

Right I know I'm getting on a bit these day's but I'm sure when this Moomey character first joined this site he acted let's say very wum like.So much so in fact most on here said he was a rag.So his OP makes me think there is more to the incident than he is letting on.

And yet rather than have your moan to them, you come on here, where unless I'm missing something, nobody really knows you and have a whinge.

Shall I write a letter to the club for that unprovoked insult?

Kind of hard to gain sympathy when lashing out. No wonder someone told you do one.

Wanker.

You don't get to pull the insult card then go back to playing the victim pal.

It's exactly that kind of flip flop that makes us all doubt you were a beacon of virtue in the one sided incident you describe.

Yes it's entirely possible you copped some flack at the match that you didn't deserve, but coming on here weeks later telling a bunch of people (or clique if you like) you don't regularly associate with how you'll be writing to try and get a blue banned is harldy going to get you unanimous support is it? Why don't you take 10 seconds to think about how you come across to everyone, rather than how the whole world is wrong about you?
Tracking back is overrated.

I often go to football matches and turn around, find someone at random and hurl a torrent of abuse in their direction for no reason.

The reason you aren't getting much sympathy is simple, NO-ONE'S FUCKING BUYING YOUR PARAGON OF VIRTUE BULLSHIT.

You said something, probably the same thing a few times, this guy in front of you was sick of listening to your shit all game and gave you a mouthful.

Particularly if the guy had his kiddies there too - however from what I see its often the 'big I am' in front of the kiddies to prove that daddy's a tough nut - flows from generation to generation sadly.

I hear plenty of bull shit from fans near me and yet have restrained myself from abusing then (although tempted to especially when i had my stick!) but equally people who aren't regulars that come sitting near us tend not to act in a way that denotes they're taking over the area - its almost a territorial thing and the OP does sound like he was spraying the area of the self-designated 'alpha-male' - stewards should have reviewed the situation and either booted the aggressive one or both if they were being idiots just for the game.

But to come on here with your first post in for ever how long and start bleating about it - sounds like a grade-A, full of himself, middle-class cock.

Funny I thought the point of this forum was to discuss all things City where the only common factor is our love for the club - wasn't aware that it is actually a little clique where only the chosen will be engaged with and if your not one of "us" then we don't give a f*ck.

So, do you talk like you wrote that letter, because you do realise you come across like a twat don't you?

And the point you make about 'being criticised for writing to the club' - was writing to the club the only alternative to fighting him, as it makes it look like that with what you just wrote

And It seems there's still only half a story knocking around here so whats the truth? What did you say that he objected to

I don't know hence me asking him and even (as witnessed by others on here) offering my hand of friendship to him "as a fellow blue".

Thanks for calling me a grade A twat - I clearly deserved all of it and I apologise for airing my namby pamby soft as shite sensibilities on here.

And to the c*nt who thinks calling me a middle class twat is an insult then better than being a drunken yob who fights in front of his kids (btw I grew up brought up by a single mum on welfare in North Manchester - apologies I got an education and a good job).

No-one at all seems to have an opinion about the jerk who initiated this - just jump to the conclusion that it was my fault and accuse me of being at fault for complaining - I must be living in an alternative reality where listening to you all lining up to have a go at me the victim.

You know what I was quietly watching the game chatting to the woman next to me when this Neanderthal stands up and starts telling me I'm a bell end and that I should shut up - those are the facts plain and simple - how does that translate as me "taking over the area"

Oh of course I'm middle class and lying silly me....

As I stated earlier in the thread, I do have some sympathy for you in spite of your having dragged it out and sought to antagonise him once it had calmed down, which I struggle to understand. It might help your case if you explain what it is that you did or said - or were alleged to have said or done - to get him so wound up in the first place. There has to have been something and you must know what it was that he took exception to.

I offered to shake the guys hand - playing the better man - he chose to ignore it.

I genuinely haven't a clue mate or I wouldn't be on here wasting my time and telling all about it - I had my kids with me the week before at the Watford game and would have hated for them to have witnessed behaviour like this - that is why I've complained as I don't want idiots like him (season ticket holder or not) associated with MY club.

Going back to your original post I'm not sure what you think the club can do.
If you have no witnesses then it's simply your word versus theirs.
Whilst there might be some CCTV unless there is a blatant assault all that is likely to be seen is some waving of arms, and with no audio tape there's again nothing that the club could do. I see you also implied you might take it to the police but from my experience I think there would be very little benefit from going down that line, principally because of the lack of hard evidence or witnesses.
