That Arsenal would be one of the two best two sides ive ever seen but Vieira was the memorable man for me. The other great side i remember well was the early 70s Leeds side under Don Revie. Who my father was a big fan of. Would have been first away match i ever went to and we got stuffed 3-0. Great side that and the weird thing was if i remember rightly Revie only bought one player (Paul Reaney?) but he galvanised the rest of them into a mean 3-5-2 set up with Jack Charlton my favourite.

If I recall correctly we lost that game 5-1. Around the same time we played Chelsea and lost 5-0. Frank lampard destroyed us that day, completely running the show for the 90 minutes.

I always enjoyed watching Matt Le Tissier.

I really don`t remember, was he class at Forest? Imho he was the best freekick taker of all time.

Regarding the thread: Bergkamp, Henry, Pires and Ian Wright.

If i have to name one filth player, that was tranny. Hate the fucker, but he is class.

van Hoijdonk was very lazy though from what I can remember.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Not a player, but another excellent opposition display at our ground was an FA cup tie vs Leeds in Royle days. City led twice through Ian Bishop (!), mightily against the run of play, but lost 2-5. a fantasy display by a young up and coming team, giving a complete performance.

Liam Brady. I remember they hammered us 3-0 at Maine Rd and he was outstanding.
He was interviewed on the TV highlights show and congratulated how well he had played and he just replied "Well, City haven't got a very good team at the moment".
That hurt more than watching the game!

Right now, this season, Giroud.
Recent times, Henry and Zola. Respected Henry, loved Zola.
Going back in time John White of Tottenham.
Then there was Best, and big Duncan.

Agree with that but he scored for fun everywhere he went before he got too old.

The away game at Southampton when we were fighting to stay up & Stefan Karl scored the winner, Le Tiss, imo, produced one of the best performances I've ever seen. City were totally dominant & wouldn't let them anywhere near our goal, so he just started shooting from wherever he was stood. It was unstoppable.

The ball would swerve 3 times in the air & end up skimming the bar/post in the opposite corner to where our keeper had moved. He beat the keeper with every fucking shot. Luckily for us, none went in but that was purely down to luck. He did hit the post shooting from the wing right at the death (almost shat myself).

Never seen anyone do that.

Best oppo player I've seen in the flesh is George Best. By a distance.

Ronaldinho, in that friendly game, did stuff which was inhuman though, in 2nd gear.

Stan Bowles and Frank Worthington were pretty entertaining.
Regarding the Arsenal drubbing, I liked the Kippax singing "boring, boring Arsenal" after the 4th went in.

Ah, remember it well. Bowles and Worthington along with Currie, Mckenzie, le Tissier etc were not just footballers but entertainers per se. Only trouble was you had to get them on a day when they could be arsed....

Not the best but Alan Shearer always seemed to have a great game against us invariably scoring as well. Like many have said earlier that game when Arsenal destroyed us in the first 20mins especially Henry, sticks out as does the pasting Dean Saunders, Gary Micklewhite and Trevor Hebberd gave us in the 6-0 back in 89

I have little to add to this thread except that I love it. Juicy reminiscences to say the least. Keep em coming.
"I used to be 6 foot 2 with curly hair, look what it's done to me"

"In my career so far it's the most important goal. You score the goal in the last minute to win the title. You're not sure if that's ever going to happen in your career again. I wish I could tell you how I did it but I can't. I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

And Goddard. I was at that one.

I remember Brian Gayle chasing Saunders all the way down the wing towards the corner flag, then he followed him as he turned right along the touchline, until he reached our penalty area, THEN he kicked his fucking legs from underneath him.

That should go in a worst performance by anybody, anywhere, ever thread.

Shearer, so annoying. My first game at St James, climbed 10,000 stairs to my seat, arrived out of breath just in time kick off and felt like I was going to fall forward onto the pitch, it was so steep. First minute our keeper kicks it to Shearer, 1-0, game over, doh.
