To be honest too they've fucking paid entry and it's their decision if they wanna leave early or not.

Oh fuck off. Just because you pay for a ticket, it doesn't mean that it is acceptable to act like a bellend if you want. You pay for a ticket, you are entitled to watch a football game. Nothing more. You do not purchase any privileges or rights along with it.

Just because you purchase tickets to Broadway, can you leave before the end? Yes if there is an emergency or it's the first time you've been and are bored to death. 1. Just because someone has a high salary does not make them exempt from showing respect. The fact that the idea even occurred to you speaks to your character. If someone has worked hard to prepare for and is putting on a performance, it is normal to show them respect. It doesn't matter if it is a 10yr old school theatre event or a professional football match. The players have put in countless hours to entertain your miserable arse. Sure there are acceptable reasons to leave early (pickup friend from airport, check on sick relative...) but those reasons excuse an otherwise rude act. This is basic human decency.

2. The players notice. 100%.

3. It's annoying as fuck to have people walk past, especially a large procession 5-10 mins before the end.

4. If you can barely afford to see a game, you shouldn't want bellends walking past you and looking at a 1/2 empty stadium before the final whistle. One of the best pasts of going to a match should be the atmosphere in the stadium.

5. You have the right to be a twat all you want. You can go to the games in a Galatasaray jersey singing "Mancini oh oh oh" all game if you want. You can come 30 minutes late if you want. You can leave 30 minutes early if you want. Theses are normal rights that people possess in our society. But the only additional "rights" that you purchase when buying a ticket are to see a football match. You do not purchase the right to be deemed socially acceptable or respectful while acting like a twat.

So you can leave whenever you want (it's your right); but you are being a cunt to the multi-millionaire overpaid players, a cunt to those sitting around you, a cunt to City fans all over the world for making our support look miserably fickle on TV, and a cunt to the Club that you are supposed to love.

I don't know why you've all seemingly built up this idea that players or officials at the club are crying inside if John Smith from Runcorn wants to leave five minutes early to get home earlier. This 'respect' thing... seriously.. The players aren't fucking stupid. My first game was 20 years ago. Fans were leaving early then. I was only a kid but i remember it then and chances are all these footballers remember it too. Footballers are all about the same age as me - mid to late twenties. They've grown up used to this and I really, really disagree that they don't understand it/don't get it and that when fans leave early they deep down are hurting inside and feel disrespected. Do they fuck. They couldn't care less. They might care if no one sings (which is a bigger issue in my opinion - maybe people are leaving early cos the atmosphere is so fucking terrible?) and they might care if they boo, but i'm almost certain they don't care when some fans decide to beat the traffic when we're coasting 5-0. They certainly don't look like they give a shit and i've never EVER heard one footballer say 'i wish the fans stayed until the end'... i've heard them moan about a lack of singing or whatever, but never that. Cos they couldn't give a fuck. They've got their win bonus, they've got their goal bonuses and they're going home to their mansions and stuff and they really don't care....

Importantly, imo - there's also a significantly less number of fans that leave early when the game is still not clear too - when the team are coasting, fans are more likely to leave. It's not that the fans don't give a shit when they leave early, it's just they feel secure in knowing that they've seen City do the job that they wanted to see them do so they think 'i can go five minutes early and get home an hour earlier, or go now, most likely watch a shit load of sideways coasting posession and not be caught in an hour's traffic'...and to be honest. I don't fucking blame them. I've gotta stress - i ALWAYS stay to the end. Mainly cos i like to...but i can totally and honestly see why some people want to. I do find that in general when the game's more evenly balanced most fans stay, which makes sense. If we're coasting - fans can switch off, as the team do...if we're not coasting, the fans are more likely to be there to the end supporting.

I do wonder every time this subject comes up why people get so self righteous about it and invest a load of 'rules' of football etiquette that are broken just as much today as they were 30 years ago when I went to my first football matches.

It used to piss me off in the platt lane that a spacker used to step on my fucking feet every week, more than the fact he was leaving 10 mins early. It pissed me off that two blokes on our row used to go early for a half time pint, and would go different ways making the whole row move for them. Those two things are minor annoyances, perhaps rude, but are a feature of an all seater stadium.

Last few seasons we took my mates dad on a spare season ticket every week, he used to leave on 85 mins, or by 90 without fail, and say it was because his dad couldn't cope with crowds as he had very poor eyesight. I never said anything about it to him, but I was sceptical and a bit pissed off about it at times. Until one week towards xmas last season we lost him as we had stayed slightly longer and miscalculated the injury time. It took us 2 hours to find him.

Thing is, most of the folk leaving early have their reasons, and its not for me or anyone else to look down their noses at them for it. It's their loss at the end of the day if they miss out on stuff, but equally I know when I used to live up Blackburn way and take my stepson, he had to be at his dads at 6 on a Saturday, or I may have agreed with the wife that we are ready to go out at 7.30 on a Saturday night - the simple fact is that to most city fans, Manchester city is not the most important thing in their life.

As much as Ashton is taking the piss, he makes some fair points. Nobody has ever said a word near me either when I'm leaving or when others are leaving, as beefy says, most people respect other people's right to do so....unless they obstruct a view for more than the half second it takes to move past them on the row.

For anyone who places the club on such a pedestal that they look down their nose at other fans because they choose to support the club "differently", I'd suggest its they who need to get their priorities sorted out and get a grip on what's really important in life.
