Gareth Barry

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Gareth Barry

When all considered he was a great piece (sorry PBL) of business at £12mn, had his detractors and his admirers. He left AV for a new challenge with City and ended up winning the Prem and an FA Cup medal, fully justifying his decision to move.

I'm sure the Count has his reasons for loaning him out, I just hope he hasn't got it wrong.

Good luck Gaz Baz for the rest of your career and thanks for your time at City.

I’m shocked that there isn’t a thread on one of the most important players in our recent history. He was integral to us wining the league and I will be forever grateful for what he did. Thanks Gaz Baz……

I will really miss him. I think he could've done a good job for us this season as well, although his legs are almost gone.

The only reason I can see for doing this is financial. By all footballing thought he should not only be still at the club but challenging for a place in the first team. I hope it does not come back to bite Mister Pellegrini on the arse but I worry that we do not have a replacement.

Maybe it wasn't Mister P's decision. Hmmm.

Cheers for all the hard work you put in, GB.
Your right leg I like; I've got nothing against your right leg. The trouble is neither have you.

Think it was probably a combo of Barry wanting full game time (can't blame him) and Pellers not being able to make a promise. We're coming up on the world cup and why would barry want to be a bit part player, especially as it looks like we are going with a midfield 2? with the afro gone, barry will certainly start every game, which will be great for him.

Barry was a good player for us, and he gave his all on the field, nothing more I could ask and I think everyone will have very fond memories of him.

I was coming to start the same thread!!

One of my favorite players gone, abs gutted, terrible bit of business and nearly undoes all our good summer business. I read he wanted to stay and challenge for a place too which makes it a mystery why we let him go. Im not saying he would play every game but horses for courses and theres plenty of games where he would of been vital.

Worse thing is he hasn't been replaced i don't think we have anyone to do his job, i dont see rodwell as a holding midfielder, in fact i actually see our midfield as one of the weakest of the top clubs. This decision could cost us...

The worse deadline day for me in ages only consolation is the mess across the road..
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stupid decision. I've read the arguments for moving him in another thread, but to me, this just does not make any sense.

Sorry to see him leave, he has been fantastic for us over the last few years. Good luck to him.

Now i hope to see Rodwell given more of a chance.

Tbf, that is the only saving grace I can see from this move.

Thanks to Gareth, who like Bellers was a lot better player than I ever thought, top pro who has not deserved the exit he has been given IMHO. Helping the dippers 2 is never a good idea.

This!

We've spent shitloads on strengthening our attack, but by letting Kolo and Barry go, we are actually weaker at the back than we were last season. Our squad looks really fucking unbalanced!

Mentioned it before but I cant figure out why we'd send a decent player off on a season long loan when they're in the last year of his contract. Have no doubt that we'll be paying a good chunk of wages still. He would still do a job for us, has been instrumental is our progress and success.

On the surface it looks to be bad business.
