No top teams rely on their own youth alone, Barca were very lucky to bring through so many at once, just like United did with the Beckham era. It should be a decent blend, combining youth, experience and quality to make the perfect combination. The problem is, it's not a perfect science and things have to be dynamic depending on what we've got.
It'd be nice to see one youth player coming through per season but even that's a big call for a manager who still needs to win trophies.

It's all bullshit imo. They are doing the job asked of them by the owner & chairman, as was Marwood.
If you don't like it, blame the Sheikh & Khaldoon, they set the rules.

I'll be fucked if I'm not allowed to be wary of/criticise anyone but the Sheikh or Khaldoon, as I'm sure they don't tell Txiki to fuck around in the transfer market.
I can only speak for myself, but I have my doubts regarding the Spaniards not merely for their work at MCFC, but also for some of the appalling deals they overlooked at Barcelona (Ibra, Chygrynskiy, Keirrison to name a few).
I don't care much for Soriano as he is a suit & I am not particularly interested in the commercial aspects of football, so I'll have to trust the people who are far more knowledgeable than me.
I won't bother with anything regarding the Academy, as I recon that is an immensely long-term venture & I firmly believe that Txiki's influence on the current Barcelona youth graduates is marginal at best. I hope to be proven otherwise, but as that is something for the future, there is only one field to judge him on.
If we're being honest I don't see one exceptional deal we have made since his arrival. As things stand, Balotelli's disposal may rank as the best of the bunch from a purely financial standpoint, but then the timing was questionable with no imminent replacement.
Jury is still out on the new boys, but while I think both will be a good addition to the squad, my grandmother could've closed both deals for the circulated prices & no genuine competition for their signatures.

Saying 'I don't like suits' & 'I won't mention the academy' when discussing Soriano & Tricky, is a bit like saying 'I don't like politicians & am not interested in the economy' & 'I won't mention the Health service' when talking about the Government.
It's utter nonsense to just discard those areas as they are two of the most crucially important aspects of the Club.
Also, your granny must be decent at negotiating, as Real Madrid were sniffing round Navas & Shakhtar didn't want to sell Fernandinho.
You have also missed the fantastic deal we just got for Tevez, which was more than anyone imagined.
Add the appointment of Vieira to the EDS which may have rescued the careers of several young prospects already. Imo, they are doing absolutely fine so far but need to make the academy work before they can be judged a success.
What I recon is that some of the comments about these two are fairly resentful & malicious, largely by People who are sulking because Mancini got the sack & using any small excuse to find fault with thse blokes to get revenge, but that sacking was authorised by the Sheikh & Khaldoon. The chairman himself has talked about it. There is no doubt it hasd his full support.
If people have got a problem with that, or the more sensible budget for transfers & wages, which is also at Khaldoon's insistance, they should have the balls to complain about the owner & chairman, who are the deciding factor, instead of blaming the staff.
Personally I have no gripes with Khaldoon or the Sheikh at all, I think they are fantastic.

Actually if you believe certain individuals round these parts, it seems they do.

p.s. i'm pretty sure that wasn't the fee. Do you usually believe every bollox thing you read from crap papers?
cheers

Well, that might have been part of the deal to let them announce a large sum so they look like a big European Club not letting their stars out for cheap and that'd keep their fans and local press happy ... the financials this year for us when they come out will be telling.
Slim wrote:I believe when these Eastern European sides sell a player they list the price they'll be getting if all available addons are activated. I believe someone got hold of the figures regarding Jo, it was reported we paid £19M by CSKA and in reality it turned out to be a little over £6M.

Stop spinning my words. You quoted my exact phrasing, no need to paraphrase & shorten it to suit your agenda. I didn't discard anything. I won't pretend to know certain things, so you can bore somebody else to death with them. I will comment on the topics I am comfortable with & there is nothing you can do about it. Also, your analogy stinks.
It's grand talking about plans for the Academy, filling positions, Patrick Vieira (who is a nice bloke, but let's be honest, has next to no pedigree in the position), but as you say, as long as we don't have any results (i.e. players making the first team), we shouldn't load Txiki with praise, which is why I scrapped the Academy from my current assessment. Also, your granny must be decent at negotiating, as Real Madrid were sniffing round Navas & Shakhtar didn't want to sell Fernandinho.
And I don't want to sell my car, but if someone offers me twice of the amount similar cars are selling for, I will gladly part with it. I don't mind if the staff identify a target & go all out on it. But I won't kid myself into believing that the DEAL was exceptional/fantastic/shrewd or whatever you like. You have also missed the fantastic deal we just got for Tevez, which was more than anyone imagined.
Well, the Juve fans I talked to thought it was a fantastic deal for them. Which is it? Hint: neither.
I won't bother with the rest of your bullshit, because if you think you are the one to decide whom people are allowed to criticise or not, you can go fuck yourself.
PS: 30m for Fernandinho is not my idea of a 'sensible' fee.
