Watching From The Third Tier

A great place to view the game...but no place if you're passionate and want to create an atmosphere.

My worst ever memories of being at a City game was in the 3rd tier a couple of seasons ago. We were losing the derby and only BMD and myself were trying to make any noise.
As I walked back after half time, I screamed at the fans to make some noise and get behind the team. I was met with embarrassed smiles...but nowt else...zilch...absolutely no positive emotional response.
I endured the worst half of football I have ever experienced. Having to listen to the rags sing and chant on our ground with no response from City fans at all. I think I died inside with shame.
It felt like BMD and me Vs the World.

On the flip side if that,I'm not third tier but whilst I'm sure there are lots of salt of the earth fans in the south stand but unfortunately for me the idiots that have moved near to us for the last two cup games (different ones for each game) are definitely short on brain cells, I've never heard so much utter crap talked (in loud whiney voices) in my life, I'd honestly prefer no atmosphere at all to having to listen to that. So I'm not buying this South Stand is where to be stuff, I reckon it is just as likely you'll be next to a nob as any other part of the ground.

Oh and I'm not sure about standing on your seat not caring about the people behind you either, that smacks of I'm a better fan than you so I deserve to be able to do what I want which IMHO is a shit attitude to have towards fellow blues.

Ok sorry love next time I'll try to contain my excitment and sit on my hands so I can't clap either.

John, we weren't really trying to 'create' an atmosphere. We were celebrating something we haven't managed to achieve for 28 years. But nobodyelse seemed much bothered.

Some of us that are unable to afford season tickets have to brave it I'm afraid. Every time I've sat elsewhere I've enjoyed it much more, but if it's all you can take it's all you can take.

I always enjoy sitting in the third tiers, it has a great view and at home games i like to watch the game, away game are for getting pissed and singing and shouting.

The problem is has though is it feels cut off from the rest of the ground, if we extend in the future and the third tier becomes a full one like the 1st and 2nd tiers then it will get better atmosphere wise because then it will feel part of the ground.

Obviously this isn't just about the 3rd tier, but more about the section/stand itself. During the cup games I like to try different stands and sections to see what the game experience is like. The North Stand is very quiet, whichever tier you go in. The South Stand either side of the away support is obviously the best but even there you will find it is quiet on occassions due to the tempo of the game. The East Stand is quieter the closer you get to the North Stand, especially in the lower and top tier which is similar to the West Stand.

The truth is, the top tier is usually taken up sparadically by the SC holders and the majority seem to be day trippers or people who attend on an irregular basis which makes less for atmosphere and more for watching the in-and-outs of the game itself. Like I said previously, I moved into the Bell, Top Tier 2 seasons back and luckily got a position that covers all elements.

In summary, 'Horses for courses' and all that.

I understood that Piccs, it was just something that I needed to get off my chest, that I still feel fucked off about.

I think many of the posts are right about many of the people up there being irregulars and it would explain why in my case, I couldn't get them to back the team and in yours, you couldn't see them celebrating.
