Im with Spartacus on this and for once disagree with Ted, he would be perfect beside Barry(not instead of him) in my opinion. This allows yaya to play where hes best as attacking midfielder. I wouldnt pay the massive money madrid paid but would pay up to 20m. Comparing Modric and Nasri is like comparing apples and oranges....

So you think when Yaya loses the ball in the oppo half, & Dortmunds midfield come charging down the middle of the pitch, Barry & Modric is what we require to stop them & get the ball back ?

TRANSFER LATEST
Napoli head coach Walter Mazzarri described the challenge of working with Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli as "stimulating", amid reports of a possible approach from the Serie A club.
President Aurelio De Laurentiis has admitted he would be interested in bringing the unsettled 22-year-old to the San Paolo as either a strike partner or replacement for Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani.
"Only those who know him well can say what kind of problems he might create in training," Mazzarri told La Repubblica.
"I've got a bit of experience, though, and it would be stimulating to work with a talent like his."

No id rather Patrick Vieira and Roy keane for that particular scenario in that match but overall in general, as long as we were set up right modric and barry would work and there wouldnt be a better centre midfield pairing in the league imo.

That's where my problem lies, we would be signing a player who isn't the kind of player we need.

What happens if we find, for instance, a German Roy Keane or a Brazilian Patric Vieira ? The answer is; they go to Chelsea, because we have a squad full of Nasris & Modrics & have spent all our transfer & wage budget.

We have 4 centre forwards, 5 with Guidetti, yet Mancini said that if we had signed RVP, we could play with 3 strikers, in other words; our strikers can't adapt but he can, so we have signed a bunch of strikers who can't play together rather than signing ones who can.

Lets actually sign the players we need, to do the jobs we require in all areas, rather than just signing players because we can.

I'd genuinely support the signing of a player of Alonso's ilk, and certainly Modric IF the price was lower. I don't think the Real board would take such a drop in return on the money they spent on Modric at the moment, it'd be admitting a mistake. By the time summer comes round this may change...

So, Modric at the moment....no

Alonso....yes

Anyone else who offers us a bit of vision/supply/wide play/something different....definitely

Ted have a point we have that kind of player ,even do i think hes great player we would only add one more that kind of player and for that money we should buy players where we really need patch or fresh up ,for me we need De Rossi kind of player if not him.

And as for him being more consistent or effective than Nasri in the Premier League, how the fuck has anybody come to that conclusion ? Effective at what exactly ? Taking the ball from A & backheeling it to B then getting it off B & then playing a lovely little pass to A, then getting it back off A &, with the outside of his foot, just curling a beautifully weighted little curving ball to B then getting it off B running to the halfwayline and passing to Gareth Bale, who runs half the length of the fucking pitch & wellys it in from 20 yards.

We already have players who can pass a ball sideways 50 times, never score & never create a goal. Nasri hasn't been a great player for City or Arsenal imo, but he's done a fucking sight more than Modric & plays like him on the shit days.

To echo Spartacus, Modric is nothing like Nasri. He's a playmaker from deep, capable of smacking one in from 30 yards as he showed at Spurs with a fair few quality hits.

Whether that's the position we need to strengthen the most is a different matter although he's certainly better than Garcia or Barry.

Okay is anyone really seriously thinking Modric as a viable option fo us?

If he was going for 10-15 million for instance i could see the point in signing him as a squad player but when figures like the 33 million pounds Real Madrid paid for him come into the equation it makes any notion of signing him seem nothing short of ridiculous.

Vastly overrated and vastly overpriced.

Over priced at that for sure.

But at the start of last season it was a straight fight between him and Silva for poty - he would absolutely complement what we have. Barry is the water carrier, he is the deep lying playmaker, Silva, Toure are the ball carriers further up the field.

Does anyone think we will say or loan out any of our regular players? That would probably then hint in which sections we will strengthen.

I honestly don't know.

id loan out Sinclar in a heartbeat.

also, if this Dzeko to Inter Milan for ~£25m is true, id take that in a heartbeat and buy Cavani for cash + Balo.

Intar just buy Rocchi i dont think any Italian club have money to buy any player over 10 maybe 15 mil and Cavani price is 50 mil. , he would be great but 50 mil. ,from year to year prices of player go up more and more . Two three years ago player like Cavani would be 25 mil. i think , but Ronaldo and Messi build up those price to sky high. so if Ronaldo is 120 mil or Messi is more, why Napoli cant ask 50 for player like Cavani , but it s become to much when i think that some whole championship is cheaper then one player it is bit crazy. Now u have only 10 or maybe 15 clubs able to buy players over 20 -30 mil. and not get in trouble.

Fellaini would be awesome in our midfield!
