What Does Yaya Toure Actually Do?

No surprise he was quiet yesterday or that he looked better when pushed further up as part of a three.

He just isn't effective when part of a two man midfield, with defensive responsibilities. He has always shown his best form when played at the tip of a three man midfield and with the freedom to get forward and support the front man.

Surprised Bobby perseveres with him in that role. He's ineffective when utilised there.

I think Nige will come in to the side for Nasri/Silva against united and I expect Yaya to play in a more attacking role and put in a big performance.

I think he often drops him back through the team just to keep him in it, at the expense of the De Jongs of this world.

He does as good a job as Nige does but after you've seen him galloping around further up the pitch and dictating matches, it feels like a waste.

What wa already apparent before this season has been cemented. That Yaya can play well DM or Advanced. Ok he is better Advanced probably but he can do a decent enough job most of the time DM with another.

He really is a special feather in City's cap. for a bloke of his size he has both a good touch and quickness of feet. I think though that the fact he can move up and play that role is the main gig for the team. When DeJong comes on we are if anything stronger in DM yet lose nothing at all in attack, in fact we get a directness that we struggle to achieve with the famous 4. Teams will get savvy to this but at 60 mins when legs are starting to feel it, Yaya surging forward is the last thing you want and however you prep for it you only get two chances a season at most to get actual practice in. The rags shit themselves quiet literally and they have been trying to deal with it for two seasons in the league and Cup with zero effect whatsoever.
