"O Dotouro" - One of the all time greats .
Clever, skillful, flamboyant. One the pillars of the '82 "Selecao" - the second best team in the entire history of the game. . .
A sad day.
Sympathy and embraces to his family and the entire people of Brasil

I can confirm JF is alive and well and is only 45! Gutted at this news, took the username as it fit well being an admirer of the player and also sharing the name of the Greek philosopher known as the father of democracy yet not really democratic himself. Very sad, especially so as he reportedly was getting his act together :(

A fantastic player who played in one of the greatest teams of all time, Brazil, 1982 World Cup.
A remember watching that goal against Italy and saying to all my mates it was one of the greatest goals I had ever seen.
Was really gutted when they lost that game.
RIP a true Genius

Glad you're not dead.
They were saying before on the radio that Socrates (footballer) actually initiated a voting system with the Corinthians club, where they would have a vote on every aspect of the club; what time they would train, what players they would sign etc etc, all this during the time when Brazil was under a military dictatorship, as an example to the people of Brazil , so it seems he was somewhat democratic.
Bit of a special bloke I think.

Medical doctor, democratic socialist, newspaper political columnist as well as football pundit. Not your average footballer...

Truly great player. He and Eder provided the platform for that 1982 team which lit up football.
