I thought he was a wanker and he clearly has an agenda against city!

I was going to make a thread (only entitled 'The ref' - glad I checked this first!) about him, I thought he was excellent, really let the game flow.

The only real criticism I had of him was when he delayed allowing (brain fade, was it Nasri?) back on the pitch, otherwise excellent and for the first time ever I actually saw the extra linesman contributing to the decisions.

I thought there were a few poor decisions, particularly one in the first half when someone went through Zabaleta and didn't get booked. Not sure who it was, but I suspect they may have already had a booking. Also thought zab's booking was harsh, but it was right down the far end, so he probably had a better view.
Not sure if everyone else who commented was at the game or saw it on tv with replays, as that obviously changes your opinion. At times he let things go which surprised me for a European ref, but then there were still some strange things. Still no idea what the blokes behind the goals are supposed to do and why are they on the same side as the linesman? Surely it'd be better if they were at the other end?

I wish he had opened his eyes once in a while during the game.
That way he might have punished the Napoli player who threw Aguero to the floor off the ball in the penalty area and also the one who smashed Kolarov in the face causing him to go off for treatment.
Considering he had FOUR assistants there is no excuse for instances like this being missed.

Thought he should have at least booked, if not sent off the player who scissored Zab. Didn't intend to go for the ball and could have seriously injured Pablo.
I liked how he let the game flow, however there was a point where it was threatening to boil over with about 3 or 4 tackles flying in consecutively. If he'd blown after the second one it would have stopped any potential braking of legs that would have happened.

That was Lavezzi that tried cutting Zaba in 2. I thought at the time where the fuck is his yellow, especially after Zaba's for being slightly late in a genuine attempt to play the ball. Then having looked at replay it might even have been a red as both feet were off the ground, he lunged at Zaba, no eyes for the ball.
Overall though the ref had a good game, let it flow pretty well and perhaps even favoured us on most 50-50s.
Them assistants behind the goal are pointless, has anyone ever seen one of them make a decision?

I agree the ref had a decent game coping with all of the Italian theatrics.
However there were two major impacts on the game which I think he got wrong, both in the second half. Zabba recieved the ball just outside our box when the ref blew for a free kick. Now he blew due to an Italian rolling around on the floor after he had given Napoli the advantage, you cannot give Napoli the advantage let them lose the ball then blow for a free kick. Worst of all when Zabba recieved the ball there were two city players ahead one of which was Aguero with no Napoli players on the right flank. Aguero starting a free run on the halfway line with support and no opposition would have ended up in a shooting if not scoring opportunity.
The second mistake which was down the North Stand end was when Aguero was brought down for what appeared to be a penalty and nothing was given. I admit for me it was too far away to be certain he got cleared out but Aguero hasn't done alot of diving in all fairness since arriving. If the ref did get this one right could someone explain what did happen?

You mean Silva, don't you? That high ball he was running for with two defenders in his back?
It could have been given, but it would have been a very very harsh call. I would have been fuming if our opponents would have gotten a penalty for a "challenge" like that.

Yes, if it was Silva, as I said it was about as far away as the ball could be from where I am and there was more than one tiny blue up front.
