Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

..in your lifetime?
For me, this is the best time I can ever remember for being a City fan!
We finally won a pot, we are going to win lots more over the coming years and are playing some amazing football!
Add to that the fact that we play our first ever game in the Champions League in a few days time and I'm surprised I can sleep at night I'm so excited!
Good times to be a Blue.

Not for me there hasn't been KK. Would have loved to see the city side of the 60's but not even a thought then. Nope this is it, we are now in the big time, playing some amazing football and have really come together as a team. The players, the manager and the backing we have amazes me. We WILL go from strength to strength!!!! I think most of us have watched enough tough times over the years to feel that what we have coming is justifiably deserved!!!
ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!!!
I haven't a fecking clue what I'm doing! Gillie come back man I want my sig back. As the Photobucket thingy gone?

Yes there has been, in mine. When we were sweeping all before us including regular wins against the 'big clubs' and going a goal behind was seen as a minor inconvenience.
At the moment we have a team full of extremely talented players who look likely to more than emulate that team of 1968-1976 but I would urge just a tiny bit of caution (for fear of massive disappointment should things not go exactly as expected) because, to not put too fine a point on it, we haven't played anyone special yet (yes I know we were awesome away to Spurs but their midfield was non-existent that day). Nor have we needed to show the character needed to come from behind and not only draw but win.
Just notes of caution, I'm as excited as anyone else is.

Can't wait for the game on Wednesday first game in the champions league and I'm buzzing. Just imagine if we smash napoli like we did spurs. Best time to be a blue in my lifetime. Let's just hope we don't come back to earth with to big of a bump if things go tits up....

I agree with all this but imo, the difference between now & then is that we have the financial backing to stay in the hunt for trophies forever. My biggest worry for the future was that we would turn into an Italian Leeds; a team who wins everything but is liked by nobody. The football we're playing now has put that to bed & imo, we're in a much better position than we were in 'the good old days'.

It's an important point you make Ted.
What can kill great teams more than anything else is stagnation. As you say, we have the resources to keep freshening things up year on year.

I'm from the same vintage as you Kladze and I remember sitting at the front of the Platt Lane stand watching City destroying opposing teams. The biggest difference to today was that were many occasions when every player in a City shirt was born and bred in England.
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, it's just possible that you haven't really grasped the gravity of the situation.

I am 54 and have been going since I was 7 - and the answer has to be a resounding no.
That based upon the future we are anticipating in terms of success - but also for me it is the firat time that I have ever really felt that CITY are 'SECURE'. By this I mean that we are 'there' for good with foundations / backing etc. Unless the 'old guard' succeed in getting UeFA to 'do something to stop us' we will never again be in a bad posisition - well at least not in my lifetime.
There are only a couple of teams that can feel that way - I certainly would not put Chelski in that bracket - there is a big difference between the way they are ENTIRELY dependent on the sustained interest of an individual (that will stop at some point) and the sustainable approach of our owner that removes all the risks from us.
Do people notice how members of the press are now starting to recognise it and talk in terms that seem to disregard all the shit they have given over the last couple of years - they will be queuing up for lunches soon - I hope we have a record of their comments and long memories.
That said I look back to the period which included the 98/99 season, where I think I only missed 2 away games and I am loaded with warm memories of the camaraderie and 'closeness' that was part of being a CITY fan. The away games in those years were 'different' somehow. Of course how could an away day be better than Spurs a couple of weeks ago? - but in some indefinable way they were (or at least different) - perhaps because now we know that we are going to be served up with special performances and in those days - well who knew? The fans made their own fun on a platform of zero expectation.
The Gillingham game was almost the 'height' of typical CITY - I remember saying it after Horlock scored ("....typical CITY too little too late..") - and the the rest as they say is history (I still watch that video several times a year)

By far the best for me.Just turned 31 and have never been fortunate to see us wing anything major until the fa cup.Something i honestly felt i would never witness. We just always seemed to shoot ourselves in the foot, we lost coutless cup fixtures to lower league sides.
Adding to the brillinace of actually seeing us win something, this season we look like we have reached another level again.I know its early days but the signings of Aguero,Clichy and Nasri all look like masterstrokes from Mancini and Dzeko finally looks like hes comfortable in the side.
I think we may have finally gelled.

The 70's were great we stood tall and watching was just.. well imo as it should be watching City.
There is a difference now though, the club is run superbly, back then you always had this unknown worry about what stupid things they might do.. okay okay ease down Cook has left.
No the big difference for me is the strength in depth, never seen anything like it at City. It isn't just strength in depth either is it, the squad are practically all first team players. The options open to Mancini are just phenominal. This I have never seen the like of so it blows the past out of the water.

This paragraph is spot on for me. It has always been thoroughly enjoyable being a City fan. Now it is just as good but in a different way.

I was pondering this question yesterday too and having only been 8 when we last won a cup, I can seriously answer no, I'm still not used to feeling this confident.

There is a real strange feeling of optimism before games for me this season that has never been there before.\
The cup knocked that typical city feeling away and the new found attacking formula Mancini has us playing makes the games entertaining as well as successful. Job Done!
