Y'know, if we get 5 points in the next 3 games - we'll have the same amount of points as last year!
Progress indeed.
5 points in the next 3 games gives us 4th spot and that's progress
There is still a fair way to go as the Everton game demonstrated but Mancini has moved this team forward. You can argue that he could have done it faster or better or that he has dropped a fair few bollocks on the way but if we get 4th spot he has fulfilled his brief and if we get 4th spot and the FA Cup then he has done very well.
Next year we should kick on further given the team will have been bedded in for a season and with the squad tweaked and pruned where needs be. In short whats not to like about City at the moment? Even the football is sublime at times and - oh yes - put the fucking ball in the net!!
Sorry. Mini rant
haha, all fair enough mate. I do think we've moved on from 12 months ago as it happens but sometimes think it's in spite of rather than because of bob. probably unfair i know, but i'm still not convinced. i guess abject surrenders like yesterday don't help.

The 1st half was proof that the team has improved but the 2nd half showed the areas where we should have improved & haven't. Mancini has tried to build a squad which can counter the likes of Everton & Stoke, rightly noticing that Hughes' side was a bunch of dwarves. Just being tall doesn't mean you can compete with these people though. It's not just Everton that get at us when they play that way; it's Everyone. We only squeaked through when Blackburn started it. We need to learn how to stop it but also how to do it.
It's fine that he's improving the 'continental' aspects of our football but if he's going to stay in the job, he needs to get the British stuff right as well. Ferguson & Mourinho know that.

The big problem we have is lack of inspiration and heart when things aren't going our way. I've noticed that our games are generally won and lost in the first half hour or so. If we score two goals in the first half we're generally ok, but if we fail to capitalise we panic.
Also, when the game isn't going our way, nine times out of ten we lose or at least fail to win. We are SHITE at turning games around. When we go a goal down its normally over as far as I'm concerned.
The semi against United sticks out like a sore thumb, not for all the oobvious reasons, but because its on of MAYBE two times this season when we managed to turn the game around. And the players still talk about it like it was a one off... how inspirational speeches were given at half time etc.
This should be par for the course for this team and I hope to God its the one thing added to our locker next season. Then and only then will we be a top team like the scum, who do it week in week out.

Disagree with you, mate! We'll play our most delicate game between a week! Every top class manager knows very well the meaning of a correct turn over!
From Torino, Italia to Manchester, Lancashire this City is always our City!

Heh heh indeed .... going on the current point rate I'd say it's unlikely that he will match/beat Leslie's points total however he looks most likely to beat his placing position ... all swings and roundabouts ain't it.

comparing points totals over different seasons is rubbish. Teams change the league changes and this year its being more competitive than last. Thats the bottom line. Ask the Rags would they rather finish with last years points total and come 2nd again or whatever they finish this year and come first. People can say, its not progress but it is. bottom line of the top 6 teams. Only 2 look like matching last years points total in a more competitive and tougher premier league and thats us and Arsenal

playing devils advocate - you could argue that the league is poorer this year, and the top teams haven't found it as easy to beat those further down. so we should have more points, not less.
I would actually argue that the league
is poorer this year, but i get your point about comparing.

You lost me on that one. Hughes points total was what 33? Or did I just imagine Mancin running the team for the second half of last season?

That's like disregarding a team's past record against another team. You measure progress based on how you performed last time around. If we accumulate less points than last season and finish higher, then it is indeed progress, but progress based on other teams rather than ourselves.
Points trajectory and all that. Getting rid of one cunt and kneeling at the feet of another who achieved less or similar points, purely because the teams around us accumulated less points fickle at best.

Not really people can argue the league is poorer but stats suggest otherwise. Its suggests the league is tighter. Chelsea are struggling with pretty much last years team. United the same yet they are once again in a Champs league final, 3 premier league teams again made the last 8 in Europes top competition and Arsenal ran Barca close.
People can argue they aren't as strong or whatever but I don't buy it. Not every team in the league can be worse than last term. All our competitors are pretty much the same. Is this seasosn just a case of Chelsea, United, Liverpool, Spuds getting worse while ourselves and Arsenal don't progress and improve our position based on being the failings of others. Not in my eyes. Results this year dont lie, the league is tougher imho of course

yes - stats do suggest that the league is tighter. but the whole point of what we're debating is
why. And i still think it's important to note our record against the other top 7 - 2 wins from 11, and the last over 7 months ago. We'll need to improve on that next season, that's for sure!

As soon as I heard our no pace no flair attack I knew we wouldn't win. I'm surprised we got a goal. I expected nil.
It's shit stuff again from Bob. just shit.

I don't think that's entirely fair on this occasion mate, because the first hour was a fantastic performance that was only let down by poor finishing. Had those chances gone in it would have been game over, which tells me Bob got it bang on.
The only gripe I have with him is that he didn't make changes when it was clear as day we were going under.

Spot on. I can count on one hand (maybe even one finger?) how many times we've turned a game on its head when it looked like we were going under.

Haha...whilst I wouldn't say it using the same words as Bob did, I am wondering if Piccs had a chance to see the game as we played some sublime stuff, with flair and pace. We didn't 'just' have lots of possession either, we created plenty of clear-cut chances but our finishing was poor.
If we start like that against Stoke and Spurs in the next week, we should be looking at a very successful week. Just need to put those bloody chances away!

and yet had we finished the first half 4-0 we wouldn't have robbed anything. Strange how that can fit with your analysis.
