we all know why some people use the munich term, and the way they treated their players and their families after it was a disgrace. However, all an outsider sees is someone disrespecting a tragedy, which is no different than the rags singing about hillsborough, people hissing at spurs or the racist abuse of adebayor.

There's no need for it and, frankly, it shows the club and the fans up. We've shown how good we can be at the swamp a few years back or anfield a few weeks ago, so why ruin it?

This may have got lost in all the posts and I think it sums up how I feel about the whole thing as well.

That's my view as well.
The fact is that the only people it originally was disrespectful to was the football club who milked the tragedy for all it was worth, while abandoning it's victims when they became a hindrance to them. But the original meaning has been lost over the years and is no longer relevant. So it now comes across disrespecting a tragedy, and TBH, I wish we could think of something more relevant to this day and age

Can't believe this bollox causes such polar uproar still. For me the term long ago ceased to be about the disaster, merely a reference as a wind-up (in a similar way that they get called rags) .... which seems to be working well on alot of our fans as well now.

Spot on chinners, I normally don't like our 'munich' songs but I joined in loud and proud last night, I never found it offensive towards the victims and the victims' families or the tragedy itself.
It was about yaya scoring the winning goal in a semi final to put is into the first cup final for a lot of us! The goal was scored against 'them', the 'rags', the 'munichs', the 'scum' etc! That is all, nothing to see here, move along now!

Although I wholly accept that the song/word is in awful taste and references a genuine tragedy (yes, one in which an ex-Blue died) I also know that it is one of the only references we can level at "them" which genuinely upsets them. It doesn't make most united fans react in a "oh you are despicable and tasteless" way....it gets a "you fucking CUNTS" out of them and that is exactly what people who use it want.

It is meant to be unpleasant and it is.

Exactly like the Millwall scummers holding up the Turkey flags to Leeds fans. We're in top-notch company, then.

I find it ironic that some of those who are 'pro-Munich' are the exact same posters writing 'We are impeccable!' after wins on here.

I don't have a problem with people (like DVT mentioned) using it amongst their mates, or in explaining to other fans why our fans use it a lot (and I get asked embarrassingly frequently). But I think it's a terrible reflection on the club when it is used in games.

Especially in such a shitty witless song, and when it's not against 'them'. It just makes us sound thuggish, bitter and, well, desperate.
